I'm going to get a hayabusa sand rail soon. I have looked at a King Sand Car and a Sand Bullet. I will be looking at a Tom Pro Car very soon. I'm 44 years old and still riding a TRX250R, awsome quad but its time to start the transition into a sand rail. I have not rode in any sand rails yet, but hopefully soon I will get a ride in a Tom Pro Car. I keep thinking I need reverse and then I have been told I don't need reverse and having reverses robs 15% to 20% power. I have watched all the videos on the Tom Pro web site and those cars dosen't seem to be robbed of any power. I really like the look of the King Sand Cars, but I know most of those cars dosen't have reverse. Newer Sand Bullets cars has reverse without using chains. After a few years of looking at different web sites I'm 90% sure I will get either a King Sand Car, or a Sand Bullet Car, or a Tom Pro Car. If anyone owns one of these hayabusa cars, please tell me what you think of it, Thanks

Hammerdown, that is a nice looking Tom Pro car! I like the wider front end of the Tom Pro Car. I would be happy to take a ride in it sometime. I'm in the Phoenix area, what dunes do you go to? Do you miss not having reverse? The people I have talked to with cars without reverse, say they don't miss it. I will be getting a sand rail soon. I have a 2002 GSXR1000 I ride everyday to work, I know those motors are a work of art. I have 25k miles on it and it has never missed a beat! |

Reverse isn't that big of a deal man, i've driven rails with reverse and without and I actually prefer the live axle without reverse. The reverse box weighs about 75 pounds and it does rob some hp. If your going with any unit I would recommend the Jeffco. I never use reverse except to get off the trailer, I don't need it at camp nor do I need it in the dunes. I prefer the most hp, fewest power loss, and fewer components to possibly go wrong myself.
Between the 3 you chose, I would definatly go with the Tom Pro or King sandcar. King is a great car, lots of them running around and the customer service is great, i've heard Tom is a bit hard to get a hold of. There are plenty of King rails at the dunes in your area for a test ride, pm king sand cars if you want to set something up with him, i'm sure he'll meet you in the area for a test drive, or at least point you in the right direction for a customer near you. Sand bullet has some issues, never heard anything bad about King or Tom Pro. Can't go wrong with a busa man, you made a good choice there for maintence, power, and fuel economy.... If you're looking, there is a tom pro for sale in the "buggies for sale section". I don't know the owner or the car, but the price is certainly attractive. King Sand Cars participates here in the forums, and have been very helpful, and more than willing to get gd.com members a test ride. If I were in the market, I would choose from one of these two builders. (however, once we see one of yoshi's in the dunes, my list might expand to three...)

I have been lookin at the Busa cars for awhile
waiting for the right time to get one. I actually met Chris the guy selling the TomPro in the buy sell section a couple of weeks ago and he gave me a ride. His car had reverse and I have to say if it robbed 15% of the power I would have never known, that car hauled A$$. I was very impressed by the way it handled it soaked up everything we went through. I definitely think I will get reverse when its time to buy, my rhino ways as much if not more than a TomPro and its a mother to push in the sand or even out of the trailer. |

I saw a Blue King sand car at Olds and looked like it was working great.Power was plenty and the handling of whoops and turns was awesome.I like the 15" wheels rather than the 12".

I actually just moved from Dallas to Phoenix. I still have my house back in Dallas. I have a 2001 GSXR1000 motor that might fit nicely in one of your single seaters, that motor is in Dallas. Let me know how much it would cost to build a single seater up using that 2002 GSXR motor. I sure do miss Little Sehara, OK. I started going there in 1992. |

B250R,
I'd say your best bet is to ride in any of the cars you're thinking about and then choose after that. Tom makes a very nice car and has been around for a long time. We pride ourselves on our customer service and the reliability of our cars. We'll be out in Phoenix for the sport show in December if you want to see a car. I'm also planning on going out on the Weekend of the 15th to Glamis or Gordon's if you'd like a ride. The ride is normally a deal sealer and it takes awhile to wipe the 'permagrin' off you face Also, we're not a huge fan of reverse boxes....they all have problems and they rob HP. Even the high dollar Mendi's owners are scared to use reverse because they break. But we know there's a market for it, and we're building a new car with a (hopefully) bullet-proof box. We're going to drive the piss out of it (nothing out of the ordinary for us Yoshi, looking forward to seeing one of your cars out here! |

It's a good idea to ride in a couple of different brands before spending that kind of cash... if you just test one, and it's "fun enough", then you might end up with "250r" dated technology when "Hayabusa" technology is available at the same price. |

As long as your carefull with how you park your rail you'll never use reverse.
I leave an opening at camp so I can pull out and I don't pull right up behind someone at comp hill. Other than having to push my rail out of my trailer there's really no need for it. Just my 2 cents.

Just called tompro with a light question and man where they helpful. Who ever I talked to has the personality of a brick. I asked for a price becasue I like the oval lights on that car. I got some crazy price and he kept telling me that was the price installed. I kept telling him I want to install them on my car (KING) and he kept telling me"$620 installed" Well after 3 times I told him I would take them and he could come to my house and install them. Well Mr personality told me he wants going anywhere. I still never got a price to buy the lights so I said CLICK.
HIDS Here are the same lights ( i think, he was not very helpful on the phone) Save your self some money and frustration and buy a King Car. |

I got a motor in the garage, another on the way, and I am DYING to get a two-seater together. Just watching the videos gives me anxiety attacks! The first rail will be without reverse, as I'm used to quads without it (and I try NOT to use the Mendi reverse if I can help it). After that, who knows... Once the beast is together I'll be trying to make the rounds to as many different dunes as I can, but you know how that 40-hour work week gets in the way. |
