Honda please do not mess up and install XR parts in this motor like Yamaha installed WR parts in their new quad.
I under stand the 250 class displacement limit.
But what about the open class and desert racers? Just a thought but offer a destroked motor for the guys that need it to be run in the 250 class. Then another motor for the rest of the people.

What chu talkin bout Willis?? >:<
A-Dare
I believe she's talkin bout the yfz has a slightly smaller displacement to be legal in the 250 class mx racing. The yfz is a 439cc instead of the 450cc. I think aftermarket doesn't want this quad to be limited by a race class. Hence the quote "what about the open class and desert racers". Correct me if I'm wrong.....

Looks like a steel frame?

the reason it is 439 instead of 450 is that at the time they developed the engine, the rules were still 440 for pro quads, now i beleive the cc limit has been rasied to 450, but yamaha was so far onto development, that they couldnt go back and renginer and retool for a bogger engine.

When the 400ex girls quad came out, who was there?  The shee?  And what happen?  Thats right all the girls and some little boys ran out with there red honda check books and bought one.  Funny stuff if you look back now.

That's funny, and true. I was one of 'em. I was brand new to duning and took the advice of the guy who told me about Glamis. He said that the Banshee was the shyte, but "that new Honda 400 will probably kick some ass." DOH! I bought the 400EX...and then bought a used Banshee a few months later.
Slappy
OOOHHH TRES, AFTERMARKET, YOU AIN'T FOOLIN???? Now the McSlappmachine has been on edge for years because she's heard about this RUMOR of a new Honda quad racer. And if this ain't true, she's gonna be pitchin Slap off left and right and revin NASTY WORDS AT SLAP. She says the meanest things too. Like, "Slappy, turn your pants around so they zip from the front". . Or, "Why don't you wake me up when you decide to shift out of second gear". Maaaaan she's just nasty.

So Slap sure hope you ain't foolin...

Now this is classic! LMAO! :bounce:
SHOCKER
I think they should just put the 450 engine in a 400EX frame do to all the aftermarket parts the can be compatible. But everybody knows that more money is better and it will come with a beafier lighter frame.

Either way I will beleive it when I see one in the dunes.  And then I will go back to camp and toast the final death of the 250R and all its followers!  Its had a good run, but christ on a cracker give it a rest.  You see I don't bag on the shee, its still made and yami has the balls to continue(even thou they maybe shouldn't?)  but Honda, ha, you have been letting your loyal and crazy fans down for years.  Now you have to compete with the Craptor, 450, shee, kawa 700, kawa 400 something, sea-poo thousand pound anchor, poo-lazy-a$$ want-a-be raptor, suzki 4...something, gas gas, and maybe the canidale-chap 11!!!!!!  When the 400ex girls quad came out, who was there?  The shee?  And what happen?  Thats right all the girls and some little boys ran out with there red honda check books and bought one.  Funny stuff if you look back now.  But the market is flooded with good to great sport quads, it had better be the Jesus Quad.  For two reason, one to kill the dino some refer to as the 250R.  And the second reason is to please all the girls who are going to rush out and buy one!  Inside I hope and pray its the best quad in the whole world and does 110mph, then maybe it will shut the....well you all know who you are.  I'm not talking $hit, I waste thousands on kids atc's and think I'm cool.

im just glad to see honda is finally catching up witht he times. i heard a good point made one time... i asked a dealer why honda wasnt coming out with new quads and he put it in a good perspective. he said "well honda sales every quad they built so why make a new one." but now honda might be finally answering the call of the comsumer and coming into the future of this sport.

that and now i can finally stop hearing my dad say "im gonna get a new honda when they come out with one" damn its been like almost 10 years hearing him say this. will be good to finally shut him up and get a new damn bike.
BeachHead
I'm glad to see Honda jump back in the fray. You have to hand it to Cannondale, Suzuki, Polaris, and Yamaha. They've made Hondas products pretty unattractive to what I would imagine is their core demographic. I'm sure they are feeling a decline in sales, but I don't think quad sales are a large percentage of Honda's income.

Honda seems to move very slowly, but when they do get there, their stuff is usually top notch out of the box. I hope they set a new standard with this new machine. And while some might disagree, I hope it has reverse..smile.gif

Please remember I like the 250R's, some of you think you have 250R's, you don't.  You have a 110% complete custom quad, the only thing 250R is in your head, and I'm not referring to you peeps!  Your in a world all by yo-selves!  Some of you have magazine worthy quads, but they ain't no 250R!

Stoney do we have issues about the 250R. I know that honda will be coming out with this new quad but it will never replace old reliable. And sense they are not making any new 2 strokes the 250R's will hold there value. They thought the same thing about the 400ex that it would replace the 250R but it did not and the same will hold true for the 450...

I won't be waiting in line for one of these new want-a-be 250R quads. I will stick with my 17 year old dinosaur. That by the way should be on the cover of a magazine... :burn:

86' HONDA 250R ATC ...... Yea baby!
Yamiboy
fancy plastics, some chrome, after market parts dont make a quad 110% custom. thats custom but its also making it your own. the motor is based on a 250r, as well as the frame. now if someone is running a different motor in a hand built frame then its custom.
dunernr
Yeah, I here ya Tres... worst mistake of my life getting rid of my 85 250R ATC. Anyone have a clean/original/stock 85 or 86 250R I'm interested.
DUNE
YEAH I STARTED OUT ON A ATC AND THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THROWING YOUR BODY AROUND ONE. THAT'S REAL RIDING...

i got a buddy seriously thinking bout sellin his. he says $1500 cash right now and its yours or during the season its going up. it has a fmf pipe, top end, bigger carb and air filter. i believe thats it. original plastics, six pack rack, mostly everything. the plastics are beat up and cracked but i think the seat is still in good condition. its a hell of a bike and fast too. he has never had a problem with it. he got the top end done cuz it was gettin old and it was time to do it. and that was like 4 or 5 years ago.

let me know ill get ahold of him and see if he is up for gettin rid of it.

Just put a deposit on the new Honda 450 biggrin.gif no, I don't have a price yet, but the estimate is $5,900. Bad news, frame is steel. No firm delivery dates yet, but expected to be at the dealer show in September. No, I'm not tellin which dealer gave up the info...I wouldn't mind being the 1st at Glamis to ride the new Honda....don't know if I will but a guy can dream....

Also looked at the new Yamaha 450 - nice bike, the racer said it got very quick after removal of the air box lid and stock exhaust.

Damn I was told an Aluminum Chassis...oh well we will have to see.

lets look at it this way...what are the TOP 2 selling bikes in America right now. suprise suprise, the XR50 is #1, and an EVEN bigger suprize...the TRX400ex is #2. they already have the top selling bikes...why add another...but they are listening and they built the 450. now from a VERY reliable source. the TRX450 is NOT as flashy and tits up as everyone thinks its going to be. but honda put 100's of hours into development and testing of it. and he says it is just as good IF NOT BETTER then the yamaha. no corners were cut, and its going to be a very competative bike. now, will it respond to mods like the yamaha??? lets hope so. (its a true 450cc too.)

Did your source happen to say if it has the "old man" luxury of reverse? I've read elsewhere it doesn't, but it would be nice to see if that's independently confirmed.

I was kind of expecting that it wouldn't have it. Probably a pretty major redesign since the bike motor doesn't have it. Oh well, I'm sure it will be better to put that money into a rail rather than another quad anyway..smile.gif

I'm sure that it will be well built, reliable, and well supported by the aftermarket. It is a Honda after all...smile.gif
sausage450r
yeah...you just gotta look at it this way... the 400ex didnt have reverse...and it was built for the sport market. the 450 is being released to contest the YFZ450 on the race level. and with everyone fighting to have the lightest bike with the most HP, you would have to think they kicked the idea of reverse to the curb in their first R&D sessions. Now will it be electric start??? hard to say, no version of the CRF450 is electric start...BUT they are releasing the CRF250R and CRF250X the R version (MX) will be kick only where as the X version (desert/trail) is electric start with back up kick. Now for the quad they may make it electric start...but have it real easy to remove and add a kick starter...just like the yami. Either way, its going to be interesting to see what happens in the comming month
BeachHead
Yes, I do have to agree with you that Honda has to compete on the weight issue. I honestly didn't expect it to have reverse, but I was hoping. I know if it *did* have it, I would probably not be able to resist the purchase. If so equipped, I think the Honda would instantly become the best all around machine on the market. As it is, they will probably sell every one they can make at sticker for at least this year. I'm sure there is a big pent up demand for Honda to have a performance machine again.

It sure will be interesting to see what they actually do release. It's not every day a brand new model comes out. I suspect they'll follow on with a new TRX-250 based on the sport model of the CRF250 in short order too.

You think Suzuki/Kawi will have to step up to the plate and make a "race" quad too?

im just glad to see the industry is finally stepping up and putting some REAL performance into quads. the Z was pretty good...but its nothing compared to the yfz, Suzuki will still sell plenty of Z's to the sport/trail market. our wives and g/f's still need something to cruise on smile.gif
