I'm curious....just how many people are there on this board who frequent the south dunes and check this forum regularly?

Oh and of course you're all welcome to show up at the YumaDuner BBQ's when they start back up again. We hold our dinners on the second tuesday of every month in Yuma at Famous Sams. And on the last friday of every month we hold a BBQ at the dunes to give non-locals a chance to stop in and say hi.

Once it cools down and we start doing the monthly BBQ's again I'll post more details like where/how to find us and what to bring (it's an informal potluck kind of thing.)

I frequent Gordons but In live in Dago. Too bad. See ya in the dunes though!
c-diddy
c-diddy.bigdaddy,and jpraptor live in san diego.its a little far for dinner but once we start going to the dunes we can do buffet out there.
Mike330R
I'm half and half smile.gif

Alwys at Ogilby for Tday. There and Gordons for other trips. One great place is 5 mile drop right next to the canal!
jhitesma
You guys don't have to be from Yuma or even visit Yuma to take advantage of our dinners smile.gif That's why we hold the Final Friday BBQ's at the dunes. To give out of towners who also enjoy the south dunes a chance to meet up with locals. Never know when it will come in handy to have a friend close by durring a dune trip wink.gif

And remember you can normally drive to Yuma and spend less gas than the markup at the GBS...and you'll be supporting people who like duners by doing it. You should have seen the local businesses turn out at the RAMP hearings. Even companies who had nothing to do with the dunes were there protesting any attempts to close any part of the dunes. Made me damn proud to be a yuman that night!

I only go to glamis once a year. All the rest of the time is in gordon's and buttercup! I read these boards everyday but dont post alot.
SandCarFan
We split our stays about 50/50 between Dune Buggy Flats and Gecko Road.

We'll have to scoot over the I8 one of these trips to visit with some of you that hang at Buttercup.
Rubberneck
80% of my duning season is in the south dunes. The other 20% is at Glamis. I like them both but my family prefers Buttercup. So I tag along with them most the time.
RRon3
We go to Buttercup about 5 or 6 times a season, the other 10 trips to G.
LoBuck
I am a YumaDuner. At least 95% of my dune time is in the South Dunes.

Jason - Maybe we can get the YumaDuner BBQ Dinner going for Saturday, August 30th? If you guys will make it out, we can make this the biggest yet.
dunernr
South Dunes duner here...

There is about 30 in our group, but I'm the only one who's on GD.com

WE are always camping at Grey's Well Flats just south of the tree's. Love it there cause it's close to the bridge and you can zip over to Gordon's if ya want.

Plus Yuma is an easy drive if you need something from town, which seems to always happen sad.gif

Forgot to mention that I think Jason is one of the best moderators here @ gd.com biggrin.gif

We have done about 40-45 trips in the past 3 years and most have been Gordens or Buttercup .We have been teaching the kids to drive and less of a crowd it is easier. We only get to Glamis once in a while due to bad trip in the past but that doesent stop us from going to the dunes.
N2SAND
Gordons about 90% of the time. Its nice to visit G every once in a while for a change in scenery but its always nice to go back home (Gordons)!
c-diddy
so we had the yuma business support huh? damn thats a beautiful thing.hopefully its advantageous. laugh.gif tongue.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif :whoa: :bounce:
MWBbanshee
Used to go to Ogilby only .The only trip we made to Glamis was once a year right after turkey day , camp up on Osborne . but that group has started to fade ,now it's 13.5 .
Still like to go to Ogilby love the quiet and unihabitted dunes north of Patton Valley .
jhitesma
Nice try NR but you're not getting extra points that easy biggrin.gif

Actually moderating this forum is one of the easiest moderator jobs here - things are fairly laid back and friendly....kinda like the south dunes themselves :cheese:

Glenn - I'm up for that dinner if you want to do it...just not sure how many people will be ready for a BBQ in the dunes that early. But I know Matt and I will make it at least!

c-diddy - the support from Yuma is phenomonal but not enough to make a huge difference unfortunatly sad.gif The local chamber of commerce is very much on our side as are most local businesses who have no question over how much benefit they get from duners stopping in. I saw insurance agents and factory owners standing up to speak on our behalf even when their business didn't profit directly from the dunes....but they know what's good for the local economy is good for them. And above all else they demand that public land be open and accessible to the public! There are a lot of freedom lovers down here smile.gif

One of these days I'm going to try Ogibly. Seems like the absolute closest camp since I have to drive past it on the way to Buttercup or Gordons. But with the reliability issues my rail has had I've been afraid that if I camped there I'd break down before I even got into the real dunes smile.gif

Maybe this season...things are looking much better for me!
A-Dare
Always at gordon's, unless we all jump in our cars and ride to Glamis where Mikey, shhpoon and kenC17 have fuel waiting for me!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

95% of the time I am at Ogilby it used to be 100% but someone I camp with bought a funco now I make at least one trip to glamis for there regatta. I plan on hitting glamis more on the off weekends. I would like to camp a buttercup only because I have never camped there.

Jason

You and Matt can join us for a weekend Greg and Cricket are usually in the same area.

Hey guys, it looks like we got a tentative YumaDuner BBQ for Saturday August 30. Will you make it, or will it be "the regulars"?
azsandrider
I'm a South Duner!

Buttercup Halloween to break in the riding season, and Gordon's Well most of the rest of the season.

I go to the north side about once every 2-3 years on an off weekend, then I realize why I stay in the South. laugh.gif
Poiks
I'm a south duner, but less now than in the past. Gordons Well was our normal riding place, until the women in the group started whining about the dust. Suddenly, the group stopped going on big holidays, and goes to Glamis on off-weekends. sad.gif
duner21
Leave the women home! LOl

I am a Gordons lover. Been going there for 20 years and still haven't gotten tired of it! We make the occasional late/ early season trip to buttercup with the guys. Thats when we met Jason last june.  :bandit:

glamis_dude14
i am a south duner..being that i live only 30 miles from Buttercup/Gordons biggrin.gif
lincster
Buttercup probably 90% of the time, down west of Midway. Gordons 5% of the time, and Glamis for a couple of weekends a season.
We get down there every 2 weeks starting October 24th.
JBDUNERUNNER
100%south duner more famileys and the people at paradise and the trailor park on the Gordon well side are very frindley.
HA2
im a huge fan of Gordons because of the camping area and close racing areas, but Glamis is much better for all out duning. I'll be in Glamis Halloween and probably a couple other weekends out of the year the rest of the season im at Gordons or Painted Gorge/Plaster City/Ocotillo.
Houndxdog
Been going to Buttercup for years, park by the trees. Spend to much time digging out the Motorhome at Gordons and with the Bridge ya get the best of both worlds.

Live in El Cajon so it is a bit far for the dinner, but maybe the buffet. :bounce:
Z400_Rider88

DADDYO

Oh.. so you're the one who's been stealing the good spot by the trees. :cheese: I camp just west of the trees. About 1/4 mile from the plank road.

I'll be there for Halloween and then the whole week of Thanksgiving. Might actually have to meet up for a ride and of course some
