I'm curious....just how many people are there on this board who frequent the south dunes and check this forum regularly?
Oh and of course you're all welcome to show up at the YumaDuner BBQ's when they start back up again. We hold our dinners on the second tuesday of every month in Yuma at Famous Sams. And on the last friday of every month we hold a BBQ at the dunes to give non-locals a chance to stop in and say hi.
Once it cools down and we start doing the monthly BBQ's again I'll post more details like where/how to find us and what to bring (it's an informal potluck kind of thing.)

You guys don't have to be from Yuma or even visit Yuma to take advantage of our dinners

That's why we hold the Final Friday BBQ's at the dunes. To give out of towners who also enjoy the south dunes a chance to meet up with locals. Never know when it will come in handy to have a friend close by durring a dune trip
And remember you can normally drive to Yuma and spend less gas than the markup at the GBS...and you'll be supporting people who like duners by doing it. You should have seen the local businesses turn out at the RAMP hearings. Even companies who had nothing to do with the dunes were there protesting any attempts to close any part of the dunes. Made me damn proud to be a yuman that night!

We split our stays about 50/50 between Dune Buggy Flats and Gecko Road.
We'll have to scoot over the I8 one of these trips to visit with some of you that hang at Buttercup.

80% of my duning season is in the south dunes. The other 20% is at Glamis. I like them both but my family prefers Buttercup. So I tag along with them most the time.

We go to Buttercup about 5 or 6 times a season, the other 10 trips to G.

I am a YumaDuner. At least 95% of my dune time is in the South Dunes.
Jason - Maybe we can get the YumaDuner BBQ Dinner going for Saturday, August 30th? If you guys will make it out, we can make this the biggest yet.

South Dunes duner here...
There is about 30 in our group, but I'm the only one who's on GD.com
WE are always camping at Grey's Well Flats just south of the tree's. Love it there cause it's close to the bridge and you can zip over to Gordon's if ya want.
Plus Yuma is an easy drive if you need something from town, which seems to always happen

Forgot to mention that I think Jason is one of the best moderators here @ gd.com
We have done about 40-45 trips in the past 3 years and most have been Gordens or Buttercup .We have been teaching the kids to drive and less of a crowd it is easier. We only get to Glamis once in a while due to bad trip in the past but that doesent stop us from going to the dunes.

Gordons about 90% of the time. Its nice to visit G every once in a while for a change in scenery but its always nice to go back home (Gordons)!

Used to go to Ogilby only .The only trip we made to Glamis was once a year right after turkey day , camp up on Osborne . but that group has started to fade ,now it's 13.5 .
Still like to go to Ogilby love the quiet and unihabitted dunes north of Patton Valley .

Nice try NR but you're not getting extra points that easy
Actually moderating this forum is one of the easiest moderator jobs here - things are fairly laid back and friendly....kinda like the south dunes themselves :cheese:
Glenn - I'm up for that dinner if you want to do it...just not sure how many people will be ready for a BBQ in the dunes that early. But I know Matt and I will make it at least!
c-diddy - the support from Yuma is phenomonal but not enough to make a huge difference unfortunatly

The local chamber of commerce is very much on our side as are most local businesses who have no question over how much benefit they get from duners stopping in. I saw insurance agents and factory owners standing up to speak on our behalf even when their business didn't profit directly from the dunes....but they know what's good for the local economy is good for them. And above all else they demand that public land be open and accessible to the public! There are a lot of freedom lovers down here
One of these days I'm going to try Ogibly. Seems like the absolute closest camp since I have to drive past it on the way to Buttercup or Gordons. But with the reliability issues my rail has had I've been afraid that if I camped there I'd break down before I even got into the real dunes
Maybe this season...things are looking much better for me!

95% of the time I am at Ogilby it used to be 100% but someone I camp with bought a funco now I make at least one trip to glamis for there regatta. I plan on hitting glamis more on the off weekends. I would like to camp a buttercup only because I have never camped there.

You and Matt can join us for a weekend Greg and Cricket are usually in the same area.

I'm a South Duner!
Buttercup Halloween to break in the riding season, and Gordon's Well most of the rest of the season.
I go to the north side about once every 2-3 years on an off weekend, then I realize why I stay in the South.

I'm a south duner, but less now than in the past. Gordons Well was our normal riding place, until the women in the group started whining about the dust. Suddenly, the group stopped going on big holidays, and goes to Glamis on off-weekends.

Buttercup probably 90% of the time, down west of Midway. Gordons 5% of the time, and Glamis for a couple of weekends a season.
We get down there every 2 weeks starting October 24th.

im a huge fan of Gordons because of the camping area and close racing areas, but Glamis is much better for all out duning. I'll be in Glamis Halloween and probably a couple other weekends out of the year the rest of the season im at Gordons or Painted Gorge/Plaster City/Ocotillo.

Been going to Buttercup for years, park by the trees. Spend to much time digging out the Motorhome at Gordons and with the Bridge ya get the best of both worlds.
Live in El Cajon so it is a bit far for the dinner, but maybe the buffet. :bounce:
