Full Version: My Sickness Gets Deeper

It all started 5 yrs ago when my bro-in-law invited me to Glamis. I didn't think anything of it until he got a rail and let me drive it at Dumont. I got stuck on a hill and showered myself and the wife with sand....more than once. bugsy2.gif The hook was set from that day forward. We got a new truck...toyhauler....2 quads and finally an ol' skool mid-engine rail since that fateful day. I thought that was enough and eventually one day I'd upgrade the rail........WRONG. These dang 70's have had my eye for some time now.

I took your advice Mr.DUNE and asked the neighbor about the bike.

I know what you mean. Every time I bbq I look over the wall at one that my neighbor is letting rot. As soon as I get a little $$ I'll be knocking on his door. I can't stand it just sitting in the Vegas sun. It's in good shape now...but it's day's are numbered.

Ask him if you can have it now and you'll pay him as soon as you can...
He gave it to me and said I was doing him the favor. He pushed it outside because they have no room in the garage for it. Ok.....so I'm saying to myself "this is too good to be true, it must be hot!" No title, by the way.

So, I took the VIN number down and started my investigation. It is a '82 and still had the "Honda of Pomona" sticker on it. I called the Ca DMV and Metro here in Vegas. Nothing. Nada. Zilch in the system. How do I go about getting this titled? Advice....suggestions? I don't want to spend any time or money on this bad boy until I know it's mine.

I will eventually post the pics when time permits.

it's probably no longer in the dmv system. Have him give you a reciept and go down to the dmv and register it
stonehenge
Yea, vin verification and register, done.

for the future folks, always do a vin check over the phone first. Just to be "safe". You show up for a vin verification and its warm or hot, its gone! FYI.............this includes the motor also.

Things have been busy, so I finally had the chance to post some before pics of my new bike.....

Nice addition, what did you end up getting it for? Doed not look bad at all!

Nevada does not Title OHV's currently...just get him to give you a bill of sale...and go buy a Cali NON-resident green sticker for it....

Nothing. It was free. That's why I ran the VIN in both Cali and NV. It has a Honda of Pomona sticker on it...so that's why I hit up Cali. It seemed to good to be true, so I thought it might be hot. It doesn't even come up in the Cali DMV system.

That's what Travis from the custom shop was telling me. bdance.gif Seems as though SB434 may be coming out with a NV sticker by the time I get it finished. Thanks for the heads up though.

I did a little disassembly last night and was fairly pleased with the condition of some of the parts....not all though.

Here's the seat pan.....in great condition:
[attachmentid=147681]

...and it still has the plug tool:
[attachmentid=147682]

...however the plastics have been in the sun sooooo long I can easily scratch them with my fingernail with zero effort:
[attachmentid=147683]

...minimal damage to the tank from the stop bending:
[attachmentid=147684]

...and a bracket that I'm pretty sure doesn't belong:

May have been a hoekie flag mount? Nice score, thing looks to be in good shape.

looks like its in good shape... I believe there is a way to clean up the plastics, I have seen some posts on other sites, but it is a hell of a process.

Be careful removing the rubber clamps that hold the spark plug wrench. they break easily and are not available anywhere.

(although I do have 2 sets that i could part with for the right price smile.gif )

Thanks for the heads up. I'm in Palm Springs all week on business and will see how bad they are when I get back to Sin City.....I may need the other set.

Or you can just get a new set, only a little over $100 and you can get your choice of red pink white blue and now sterdy has the cool black ones!

Sterdy? Is this a dot.com? A quick Google search comes up with communications companies.

Nevermind...I found them. sterdyproducts.com.

Has anyone ordered from them? They have a lot of categories, but very few parts for the atc70.....
