Full Version: 450 Swap To 660?

What all would be involved in trying to make a 450 into a 660? Besides the engine bit is the chassis designed to carry both power plants, is the 450 radiator enough for the 660, wiring similar, same suspension/axles/diffs, and etc.?

If your answer is based around "Hammer, torch, and welder", I read those in my search thanks.

TIA

With all your knowledge. Just stuff a Honda 3.0 vtech in it.
At least you would not have to try to be faster. You would be. 25cheers.gif
I didnt mention any welding either. peace.gif

why not do an r6 or r1 instead it would be cheaper, faster, lighter etc. there are a couple people I know of that are making kits for this as we speak. I want a twelve speed rhino with a foot clutch.

But if you insist on the 660 I think everything would be OK, the lower gearing in the ring and pinions of the 450 might be favorable over the 660s, (bigger tires turn easier) but good luck either way.

Although both would be nice, I'm looking for the simplicity and reliability of near stock powertrain.

After dismantling our 450, I believe everything is the same on a 450 as a 660 - possibly your engine mounts would be different.....but the raditator, oil cooler.....diffs...axles....all that should be the same. The only difference that I am aware of is there is no glove box - lol - and the engine isn't as powerful. I would think that swap would be relatively simple......

Ok, Now I'm amused at myself.........way back when I first saw 450grl posting on BRP I wonderd is this person realy a girl? and does this person have a 450 rhino? I've seen pictures of her rhino and it sure didn't look like a 450 taz.gif
I have since found out she is indeed a girl (a fine specimin too I might add) And now I find out she does/ did have a 450.

It's funny, somethings Are exactly what they seam bugsy2.gif

LOL!! Thanks Joe! icon_wink.gif

And yeah.....complete motors are hard to come by......and buying all the parts for a motor new from yamaha is beyond pricey.....but keep an eye open...with so many rhinos nowadays, someone is sure to wreck one and total it.....so some insurance company somewhere has to have one.....

it's easy just sell the 450 rhino and take the 2k for the motor and buy a 660 rhino, unless you are a true glutten for punnishment! LOL

Nice 450. I am not a hairdresser. But it is easy to tell in the dunes or on the trails because they're always in the dust...back of the pack....eating all that dust for the 660 or bigger... rotf.gif rotf.gif

Not quite that simple.

I had an offer to trade my rail for a 450 Rhino plus some other stuff, and was wondering how easy/practical the swap would be. And, while it was out at least a 686 kit would be a must...No slow stuff in my camp!

Might do it anyway.?.

I might have a motor out of mine.. Thinking of putting a Honda 929 in mine.. If I do I will be selling my motor for the right price.
