I have 3x3 rear trailing arms with stock type 2 CV's and I understand that set up is limited to about 12 inches of travel. I am thinking of getting 14 inch Fox Air shocks (non coil over) incase I upgrade to 930 CV's in the future. If I assume my bump stop is the bottom of the engine cage hitting the ground, are there any drawbacks to setting up a pair of 14inch shocks so that the last two inches of the stroke remain un-used?

I put 14" Kings on my Baja with a similar rear set up.

Are you talking about limiting the last two inches of compression? If it were me I would look into adding a two spacer inside the shock to limit the down travel. This way all you would have to do is remove the spacer when upgrading to 930 ‘s. Maybe just using limit straps, but run the risk of loosing a strap and taking out the cv’s in the middle of the dunes, which would be no fun. Good luck.

Should be fine just limit the down travel with straps and put a stop on top. Make sure you get the 2.5 air shocks, as the 2.0s won't hold up the car.
