Brian Giles is now a Padre. Very cool. He used to play baseball with my cousin Aaron out in good old East County.
Giles, Kotsay, Klesko, Nevin, Loretta, (Burroughs?)...that could be a pretty impressive lineup. Just need Trevor back, although Beck is pretty awesome too. Maybe a top name pitcher and a couple of decent pitchers and this team may be fun to watch next season, especially in the new ballpark.
Hopefully next year will be a fun time to be a Padres fan. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Burroughs has started in the Leadoff position the last two nights and ended up 7 for 9 (combined) after tonights game. That guy's an animal.

It was a good trade. You hate to give up a young arm, but Giles is in his prime and a producer. We should have a decent line-up next year, all we need now is a catcher and a shortstop.

BECK has my vote unless hoffy takes a massive paycut..

Beck? He is a lucky guy right now. How old is he and how much beer does that guy drink? Is there something to be said for loyalty anymore? Hoffman will be back next year as good as he ever was

no reliever is worth 8 mill, not even Gagne
luck would have been a couple saves in a row, think a guy has 19 in a row??? and beer drinking does a body good guy hahahah

Esco,
There is more to Hoffman then just the fact that he's one of the best closers in the business.
Is a closer worth $8mil? Maybe not...
But if that closer is the number one fan draw for a team then you bet your ass he's worth it!
People come to see Trevor... not Shooter.

South Bay native Jason Kendal is effin pissed that his dog B. Giles got traded and he's still stuck in an old dilapidated steel town. How about them Dodgers, losing 4 in a row and GAINING a half game in the wild card standings . . .

I think the players who play 9 innings every day deserve the $$$, a closer pitchs every couple days and usually only 1 inning, doubt he is bringing many people to the games

(thats my opinion and I am sticking to it

)
I think they should groom a rookie for the job, like they did hoffman..
Cheers

Well typically the month of May is the Pads best month, but you have to score runs. the pitching is still good, so that gives you a chance.

padres put all their money into that training facility in the dominican republic. look it up. its real nice, and they are hoping to farm out some superstars from the dominican. hope it works! we have the worst record in baseball now ....BTW. they BLEW the last 4 games....theirs to win and BLEW IT! so frustrating, escpecially for someone who NEVER misses a game, i always listen or watch, and its getting hard to not get real frustrated

we released edmunds, anyone can pick him up now, but who wants a center fielder with no speed and a batting average below .200, on and off with injuries

real shame. IMO he is one of THE best center fielders who ever played the game.

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to a deal in principle to acquire slugging first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Saturday morning.
The Red Sox have received permission from Major League Baseball to negotiate with Gonzalez on a new contract, the sources said, and Gonzalez's physical examination, one of the last hurdles to the deal, could happen Saturday. The team already has flown in Gonzalez, who had surgery Oct. 20 on his right, non-throwing shoulder to clean up the labrum.

In exchange, the Padres would receive three prospects in pitcher Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Reymond Fuentes, according to a baseball source.

Being a long time Padre fan, this is painful.
But they don't have much of a choice. Adrian wants 20+ million a year and he will get it. SD simply can't afford him with a 40 million payroll. I won't argue the fact that they should spend more money...that is wishful thinking with the ugly Moores divorce in the picture.
