i was watching a show on discovery yesterday (monday 9/8) for monster trucks and got an idea for a swing arm. for those who can and will think about how feasable this is... what about a 4 link swing arm?like the link they run off monster trucks or baja trucks? think about the suspension possibilities. it needs a dual shock set up in the rear to work properly from what i think. tell me your feed back on it. ..... is it possible?(even if the bike isnt very dunable) i was thinking like a gear/ drive shaft driven system. i dont think a chain drive would work cuz it needs to flew left and right as well as up and down. if it was dunable would it be better than a normal swing arm cuz it can flex and soak up the bumps and chop easier than a normal one?

its just an idea and something to BS about for a while when work is slow.
give me some kind of feed back on if it would work or not.

SHOCKER
If it has an axle with the 4 link connected and say u one wheel goes over a rock the sprocket will lean and the chain will fall off, kind of hard to explain but do ya follow :?

Drive shafts eat power , so that isn't a good option either.

If you want to get into suspension designs, take a look at mountain bikes. You will find the most outrageous designs that you've ever seen. Each different bike company has a different major design. All their goals in making their xc bikes are to have the most efficeint design that has the least bob. On the other hand, downhill bikes are made to suck up fast hits and big drops. All these designs (that i know of) have the chain drive. Santa Cruz just came out with a design that they call VPP (Virtual Pivot Point.) For their downhill bike. They claim that it gets ten inches of travel in the back.

Well i hope this helps you out a little bit.

yeah i was just in one of those weird thoughts.... what if????? and i was curious if anyone could think of something feasable. im not going into developement and design but thinking about it is how its usually started. i think it would work good on the 4x4 quads and thats about it.

shocker i thought about the chain either not staying on or snapping thats why i mentioned a drive shaft set up. its just an abstract thought. biggrin.gif
SHOCKER
U should design one for the 250ex and the suzuki 250 biggrin.gif
