It's real
Up front, independent double wishbone suspension boasts fully-adjustable Showa shocks with rear-facing piggyback reservoirs for maximum durability, and 8.4 inches of travel. In back, the cast aluminum swing arm is strong but light, and the Pro-link rear suspension features a fully adjustable piggyback reservoir shock, and nine inches of travel.
The rear shock is just like the dirtbike, different clevis than a normal ATV.
That's all I know.
Go Honda!

Kevin
Sep 10 2003, 08:34 AM
ok after seeing the high res pic, yep that appears to be it. the pic posted above is so low quality it looks fake. what looks like a cheesy bracket on the outside of the rear fender is a pair of vise grips, most likely holding the nerfs in place for installation.

Here's what I got from another site about the bike...big let down to me:
"My guy here in Las vegas just called me and said....
Detuned CRF Motor
Kick ONLY!!!
No Reverse
Fully Adjustable front and rear
Steel frame-alluminum subframe
39mm carb like YFZ
The pic we have all seen is the real quad, just with aftermarket stuff on it
Full on race quad from Honda (Remember the R in the 450R)
42-46HP
335LBS"

Now the question is--how much and when can us peeons buy one?
Which site did you see that?

Here's a link to a high res pic of the one at the start of the thread:
http://www.atvconnection.com/atvconnection...es/450r_001.jpg
I found that on exriders.com forum. Look in the general discussion area, It's the huge thread on the 450.
It's a "let down" to me because it doesn't meet "my" needs, which include electric start and reverse. Otherwise, I'd be standing in line to buy one. I'm sure it will fit the needs of many people and will be a great machine for them. And I'm certainly happy to see that Honda is improving the breed.

Shaving off 40 lbs and adding 20 hp must have been some trick, no wonder it is kick start only. Wonder if they will bring out a non-race version.
De-tuned? Why would they "de-tune" something...well, no doubt WB or CS will sell the "tune-up" kit....
Dealer said I may get mine as early as next week. That would be nice...

I think the looks are going to have to grow on you a bit. It look like they are trying to break away from the hornet look everyone is going for these days. Kinda has a street bike look to it from the front. Looks a bit bigger compared to the new Yamaha also. It's got my attention, can't wait to sit on one. I'm sure the dealers in So Cal are going to have a field day marking this thing up when it hits the showroom floors.

tron...de tuned most likely ment regeared for a quad. ive always heard companies that have same motors in dirt bikes and quads have to de-tune them for quads. i could be wrong or probably am but i think thats what they mean by detuned.
i think this bike is gonna be like everyone else... you have to get use to the look of it. i know when honda came out with the 400ex i didnt like it nor the 660 raptor. now cuz you see them so much you like the way some are modified. it just takes time.
i like the kick start version... keeps those little 10y/o kids off it.

I like the fact that you can get the tune up kit from Honda for 299 bucks. Also it was nice to see the hot start decompression system on this bike, you ever get a kick back from a 500 it's enough to launch you off the bike...

Well, I suppose the old "if you can start it, you can ride it rule" will work here..

But seriously, the parent's should be able to keep their 10 y/o's off of the bike, even if it has an electric start...

Oh, my blood pressure is fine, I think, well actually the Doc tells me different, but don't let that stop you. Its a nice quad, compared to the 400ex!

No really it will be a nice steel framed, NO electric start, NO reverse 6800.00 quad! Really.
