Maybe this has been asked before.. Any of you AZ guys drive your licensed (in Arizona) UTV on a street in Ca?... Anyone have any info about doing it? Obviously you can drive a "normal" vehicle licensed in AZ on the streets of Cali, but dont know the ramifications about a vehicle that doesn't meet California laws... Wonder if you can plead ignorant and get away with it a few times... OR do you have to have a AZ drivers license to pull it off?

Oh and yeah, I do know you can't plead Ignorance of a law legally and get away with it.. I am just thinking of the average street cop, if he would cut you some slack..

So has anyone tried it?

I would say probably not going to work.

Not gonna happen. You will never see a rhino driving in CA ever, if someone has a plated one, its only a matter of time before they're busted. Nor can you drive a AZ plated UTV in CA.

ranger/ cops told me at buttercup , you cannot drive a rhino on the street even with an arizona plate , as a matter of fact mroffroad and i were stopped by a cop at glamis flats and he told mroffroad he could issue him a ticket for no offroad sticker because california did not recognize the az street legal plate on a rhino . so the cop only gave him a ticket for a red and blue flashing l.e.d. , like 200.00 dollars or something crazy like that , not the no reg. ticket . tim

ignorance of the law won't fly. it is your responseability as a licensed driver to know the state and federal laws regarding the vehicle you are driving.

Move to Arizona, we need the housing industry to get going again.

I know that in GW, you can drive on the road from dune buggy flats to the store/diner, but if it is street legal, you must have a driver's license. They seem to have a lot more to deal with than ticketing people for lack of other things to do. I wouldn't take our cat to san diego and drive it from the hotel to the grocery store and back tho.

I think he already knows that. That's why he wrote "Oh and yeah, I do know you can't plead Ignorance of a law legally and get away with it.. I am just thinking of the average street cop, if he would cut you some slack.." at the bottom of his question. 25bangin.gif

i saw what he wrote, i agree with him but i didn't write "i agree" at the start. stetler don't take it so personal. today law enforcement is pretty much going to find you in violation of something when it comes to safety. 99% of us don't even run dot approved tires. why risk it? impound, tickets, insurance rates, ect.... its not cheap to f-up these days.....

Don't think I would try it around popular areas where UTV's are everywhere, but I might give it a shot around the streets in my area and see what happens..
I guess the next thing to find out is:
Can it be registered for the street in AZ and green stickered in CA?
