I have an impossible situatiom with my LT250R quad. Just toulk it to the shop for the 3rd time and it ran about 10 min after getting it out >:< They keep on telling me its the carb *( it needed adjustment, was dirty etc...) I have spark and compression so it does seem to be the carb. Last time it started it idled slowly then the RPM's rev'ed way high then it died and didn't start. It's an 89 so the I'm thinking the carb could be shot :skull:
Would do you think :?:

Rebuild the carb its not that hard to do. If you have a spark and compression then its your carb.

That revving real high then dying is a classic fuel starvation problem. It starts to lean out which causes the motor to rev really high then completely runs out of fuel so the motor stops. Very bad for the motor to. When it doesn't get fuel, it doesn't get oil either.
If they clean the carb and it runs ok for a little while, maybe your tank is full of crud. Empty out your tank and use the gas in a weedwacker/chainsaw/lawnmower. Take apart your petcock (Fuel on/off valve) and clean it out really well with carb cleaner or compressed air. I am willing to bet it is full of crud. Blow out your fuel line while your at it. Look in your tank to see if there is any crud at the bottom. Clean it out with the carb cleaner if there is. If you still think there is a chance of crud that you couldn't get out, you can put one of those cheap plastic inline fuelfilters in your fuel line. They may be cheap but they keep your carb clean.
You will need to clean your carb out again also to fix the original problem. All this is easy stuff. You need a couple of screwdrivers and maybe a couple small sockets. Rebuilding the carb if it hasn't been done lately is a good idea since you will have it apart anyway. Again, it's simple stuff anyone with a small amount of mechanical ability can do. Make sure to use fresh fuel/oil mix. Crud could be suspended in your old mix and plug up your filter and/or the carb.

Thanks for the info.
I had cleaned out the tank in February and afet looking in the carb it looks like I've been scammed. The needle valve was full of crud, no doubt from the tank, but I had taken the bike to the shops after I cleaned the tank. >:<
Looks like the needle valve was worn too so I picked up a new one.
One last question, how tight do you supposed to make the bolts that hold the pressure plate and springs in the clutch :?:
Thanks,
Rob

I don't have a torque value for you man, sorry. Anyone know the torque specs on the clutch bolts?

When cleaning your petcock remove the whole assembly from the tank. you also may need to clean the filter screens that go into the tank. If they get clogged then that could be your problem as well.

I have two manuals, Suzuki's service manual and Clymer's, both just say tighten with no specs. I already broke a clutch sleeve hub by over tightening one of the bolts :x Then I went too light and had the thing loosened up on me while riding

Well, like Ben (fireball) said, the high rev is usually a LEAN situation which means the engine got NO oil. Did you seize it? Anyway, there is no "rebuild" kits for carbs....they are just the needle jet, main jet, floats...etc etc. If you have junk in the tank and your main jet was clogged, that means your needle jet is clogged. Remember, the main jet doesn't kick in until 3/4 throttle. Try cleaning the carb again.....including the needle jet and all air passages. Look at your plug, is it fouled (sp?), is it white (seized situation)? Then fill just the float bowl with some good fuel before the tank fills it up and try that. Also, make sure the air filter is clean.

Dont give up, First go and buy a repair manuel they are priceless. What I like to do is give it a squirt of starter fluid if their is a spark it will turn over. Fuel problems are easy to fix. Electrical problems are a lot harder to figure out.
Get a rebuild kit for the carb they dont cost much. Make sure to do what fireball socal said.

also make sure you have no air leaks in thge intake boot. if the boot is torn you will get the high rev also.
