No I won't loose my 4WD. That's why we went to a J-Arm in the front. It will allow the shocks to mount to the lower A-arm and still clear the front axles. I just haven't ordered my front axles yet.

stetler
I worked on getting some wiring done this weekend so I can do some night runs for Thanksgiving. It kind of sucked last trip at night when I couldn't leave camp because I had no lights beer.gif
Oh ya, I also mounted the new camera to the front V-Bar on the cage. So I'll have some video footage to post after next weekend.
Maxxrhino
Turned out so bad a$$, but are you going to run a 14" wheel so that you can suck in some of that offset??? Seems to wide @ the wheel to were you would have to worry about the spindles way to much!!!
Maxxrhino
Also I would truly truly put in a support for the rear diff before you go... WIth all that extra leverage you will tear it out, there is a hole on the passenger side rear of the diff that is threaded and you really need to look @ putting in a brace before the weekend...
stetler
I know. I'm not too happy with my front rims I just bought. It makes it way too wide and I was forced to run a wheel spacer. I think after this trip I'm going to return the front tires and rims and get a bigger rim so I don't have to use that crappy spacer. It really had a perfect width with my old beadlock rims. I'm hoping to go back to that width.

I'll look into the rear end support. We did have to cut out the stock mounting bracket on the rear end and move it back 3/8 of an inch to make the axles clear the shock bodies.

No more hanging around next to the camp fire all night.........I got my light bar wired up. Just waiting for Todd at 151 FAB to finish building the link bar that the actuator hooks up to.
CripKnievel
I made that same light setup. Got about $600 in all of it including HIDs icon_biggrin.gif They work bitchen 1dude.gif Although...i should of made the lilght bar for 5 instead of 4...dunno.gif

Rhino looks awesome! Lets get some action shots now 1dude.gif
stetler
I decided to change my tire set up before I even got a chance to take it out again. Got rid of the wheel spacers I had to run and the offset front rims I had. Now it's back to the same as before and ready to hit some big jumps yay.gif

I'm going to return the other set of smoothies and paddles next week unless somebody wants to buy them first???
Maxxrhino
That thing truly has turned out biutchen now it just needs an RC51 swap in it smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
stetler
Thanksgiving was a blast. Ran into a few members from here over the weekend. See you guys next weekend in Glamis.
stetler
OK, I just got back from weighing it and here are the totals. I don't have a scanner to post the weigh tickets but I will find one and post them later if you don't believe me..
Before LT kit but with 4 seat cage, and wheel spacers.
FRONT 520 LB
TOTAL 1280 LB
Now with LT kit AND a 40 plus LB lightbar with a power actuator attached
FRONT 680
TOTAL 1420

So overall I added 140 LB minus the 40 plus LBs from the removable light bar. A 100 LBS!!!!!!!! WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to weigh the light bar by it's self later next week at work on our shipping scale.

I know you guy's are going to say I'm lying but I will post the weigh slips later when I get a scanner.
Kevin@Laser Innovations
Your rhino turned out sweet and the weight isnt that bad. 25cheers.gif

I drive by paint n place almost everday so I know exactly where that scale is.

I didn't design any of the suspension. Todd at "151 FAB" did all the thinking and building. I just kept throwing him the $$. He would ask me if I would like it before he built something or if I wanted to change anything during the build that could be changed, such as the shock tower and some of the laser cut plates on the light bar,ect . He drew up some different designs and either emailed them to me or I stopped by the shop before they were made, but the main suspension was all his design. I couldn't be happier.

Just got off the phone with him after weighing it this morning and he's working on doing something about the motor after this season. .......You think the suspension is sick ..just wait until you see the motor thats going to go in.
tomfish1
very cool for sure. That thing will be a kick in the a$$ with the motor swap. I really like how you mounted the ballasts for the lightbar very clean and takes up less space that way. Sweet rhino man.

Hey Stetler

Keeped a eye out for you , but didnt see ya. Wanted to check it out first hand. Looks great.

I wanted a set of those Mohawks before I went . Never happened. Could you tell a big difference between the smooth buff and those?

I never got a chance to run the smoothed buffs. I bought the wrong rim size and offset so I had to sell them. That's when I went to Fullerton Sand Sports and talked to them about the Right setup for my car. He really turned me onto these front tires over the smoothed ones. He said if your just doing alot of drag racing go with fully shaved and if not go with the Mohawks. The said I'll only notice about 2 MPH slower with the Mohawks but it will turn and dune alot better.
I was real happy with them last weekend. Just driving through vendors after they watered it, it would throw up alot of sand/mud. Also I went with 26" tires front and back because after you shave them you just lost 2" of tire. When's your next trip?
gamoi2003
very nice...are you going to make it out to the rhino ralley? would love to see it in person.
MossLager
Great job. Lets see some video! Let me know the next time you head to Stoddard. moof.gif

not to be a dick, but with all the money youve spent, and now a motor swap, why not just by a sandrail? it has to be close in price...
CripKnievel
Where did you find that motor?

I was wondering when you were gonna step that up laughing.gif Theres so much travel and the rhino is so freakin slow you would never use it all icon_biggrin.gif

Should be awesome now! 1dude.gif

I've ben looking for a busa motor for several weeks now but kept finding GSXR 750 motors for cheap. Wen I cam across this add in Craigslist (Inland Impire area) The guy was asking $900. for it. Because I didn't want to spend that much right now I just went out on a limb and emailed him a offer of $500. He returned my offer with a $600 counter offer. 5 min. later he emailed me back and said if I came by tomorrow with $500.00 he would take it. I never even had a chance to reply back to his first offer. yay.gif yay.gif . He showed me the pink slip and reg for the bike with matching vin and case numbers to prove it's not stolen.

I've got some good deals from Ebay but at the same time I've gotten some even better deals on craiglist. It eems like the sales on Craigslist are more of a garage sale. Where Ebay is more of a competitve sale.

I'm going to be looking for some exhaust and the gauge cluster, If I come accross another good deal on a full motor I would be happy to pass it along to a member just let me know so I can keep looking.

No offence taken. I'll be the first to say that Theirs not a day that goes by that I wish I started with a Dual sport full suspension rail. But the thing is I bought this rhino for my wife so she could drive to the hill and around Glamis with out having to take my truck from camp. I have a banshee that I ride (used to ride). Then 2 months after I bought this we found out my wife was going to have our first baby. That's when I took back the rhino and started getting the fab work done. As you can see the rhino soon became my new toy.
I really don't have that much money into this. Everything I have done or bought has been through a bro deal or some free fab work. You see my best friend owns 151 Fab. And what are friends for.
THe motor I just bought, I found for $500.00 !!! A 2007 R1 with everything ready to run (except air box). That deal I was just in the right place at the right time. I found it at 1am and was at the guys house 8 hrs later...You can't wait on deals like that.
For me to buy a dual sport rail Iwould be spending about 50-60K for a decent one. I have half of that into mine. yay.gif Oh ya and I'm ot making payments for 15 years or taking a second out on my house like these other dumb shits.

Man How time flyies, before I know I'll be handing this down to my little boy and Then starting to build my dual sport or truggy. He's already made it to the rhino races with dad and loved it!

thats right, it doesnt matter sandcar. prerunner, truck or banshee that pic will come true before you know it. congrats on a sweet rhino diffently the sickest ive ever seen, congrats farmdog. yay.gif

Whoa .... a smoking deal on the motor!

How are people or you going to hook it up to the diff?

Do the rhino diffs have any kind of reduction ratio built in?

That ws a concern before I bought it, That I would have to ditch the rear arms, Axles, and rear end I have now and go with a full gear box set up with new axles. Then I came across www.darksidefabrications.com .
They are using the stock rear end with no issues. I will probably have them do my kit. That way I can save my rear suspension I have now. Their conversion is pretty pricy but it would be cheaper the havig to redo the whole rear suspension on my rhino.
I haven't seen any pictures of this kit up close yet.

So this had me curious. I looked up on micro fiche the Rhino rearend does have a ring and pinion. I couldn't find the ratio. hope fully it is at least 4 to1 .

I think they are mounting the motor sideways and building a driveline right to the countershaft/ sprocket of the motor to the diff. Most 1000cc sport bikes have close to a 3 to 1 ratio on the sprockets. A R1 will also do like 89mph in first gear. A rhino tire will be smaller so that will help.

I am not in any way ripping on the idea . Just brain storming and thinking out loud.

Getter done! That thing will haul for sure!
stetler
Yes , The do have a ring and pinion I took my front diff apart one time. Not sure the ratio. At the time I didn't even bother counting the gears. I was just inspecting the seals.
Darkside fab is using the stock rear end on their R1 and the ratio seems to be perfect. I guess I'll find out......Hopefully not the hard/expensive way.
