I am confused on the tide schedule. How long does High Tide last? It mentions 6:45 PM. Trying to figure out how long the tide will be high so we can calculate our arrival time without having to run through the water? Thanks

Low Tide
AM HT. PM HT.
1:51 0.5 12:26 3.3

High Tide
AM HT. PM HT.
9:12 3.6 6:45 5.4

We have always just tried to schedule our arrival time for within 2 hours +or- of low tide.
ONE-A-DAY
The chart give you peak high tide, 6 hours from then is peak low which is when you want to try and get there, no more than two hours before or after the peak low tide.

I will take a shot at this.
The first low tide for the day is at 1:52 AM and is 0.5 feet above normal.
The second low tide for the days is at 12:26 PM and id 3.3 feet above normal.

High Tide
AM HT. PM HT.
9:12 3.6 6:45 5.4
The first high tide is at 9:12 AM and it is 3.6 feet above normal.
The second high tide is at 6:45 PM and is 5.4 feet above normal.

You would need to be on the beach around 12:00 to 1:00 to be at the lowest tide level.

Note that there is not much change in the tide level between 9:12 AM and 12:26 PM.

Post the link for me and the day you are looking at.

Yep,
My buddy got there at Peak High Tide and it was bad news.
Had to wait a good while.

If you get there at a bad time....just go eat.
Worse case scenario....Go 2 exits further down the HWY and Camp in the P-Lot of Walmart till sunrise.

Been there twice this summer. First time the tide seem low and trucks still rolled thru on dry sand. A few wet spots but nothing big. Last time there... man did that tide come and it came high and fast. I saw water into the beachfront campsites. Water up to your toyhauler's door can be pretty scary. Make it early to make it safe!

beachfront campers R jackarses mang........go in the back fo sho!!

Click on the 'tide schedule' on the left nav bar and then select 'July-Aug-Sept'

Thanks for the help guys.

We are leaving tomorrow night (August 23rd) at about 8:00 pm and we should be there by about 12 midnight.

I was just there last weekend. Both going in and coming out we were on the beach 2 hours prior to low tide and there was plenty of room. DO NOT try near high tide unless you want to roll your gear through salt water.

It was a great time. Enjoy the trip.

low tide is @0151 am @+.5 ft than mean lower than low water(mll), then it will flood until 0912 to+ 3.6 ft mll. the pm will ebb till 1226, but will only drop to 3.3 ft and flood till 1845 to a +5.4. that area does see 8 ft tide swings during the winter, all measurement is vert.

if you got there about 1030 the tide wuold be at max ebb but @.3 ft it woud be like watching grass grow as would the flood to 5.4 ft

without looking at a chart , if it were me ide get there at about 8pm when the tide is at max ebb, and it will be @ about that 4 ft mark of the day time low, if there isnt enough beach it wouldnt be that long of a wait, also the time probably are for morro bay so they are a few min off

What kind of truck trailer or motor home do you have?

I guess its just weird to me that people are so scared of the water. With my truck and trailer (4x4 LB Dodge w/ 33' 5vr) I don't really care if its high tide or not, when I arrive... NOW LEAVING is a whole other story, so many ass hats on the beach road that its hard to just drive steady, leaving I plan early morning or LATE afternoon, but I still don't pay attention to the tide its irrelevant to me. The # of people on the beach road is the problem. When I get home a good wash off with the hose and all is good, three years now with only minor surface rust showing on the bare metal parts (like tank mounts & such).

Also there is so much salt in the air that the morning dew will rust my chrome on the rail, now thats a bia to clean.

Motor homes are a little more tricky due to the 2wd issue but still its the crowds that cause all the problems.

HAVE A GREAT TIME, by the way!

Don't let anybody scare you. I have been going to Pismo since 69' and love seeing all of the boneheads getting stuck. Do yourself a big favor. Go to your local offroad shop and spend $60 on a set of screw on tire deflators. Set them for 10-15 psi and you can go anywhere. As long as you are above the tide line by 10 feet or more water will not be problem.

I just got home Monday from 5 days up there. My tow strap and deflators got a work out helping all the none believers.

Thanks for the info. I have the tire deflators and the tow strap. Tire deflators save a ton of time. We are leaving right now so hopefully the tide won't be an issue.

They shouldn't be any "ISSUE"... you get there and deflate tires, if your feet get wet sit down drink an adult beverage until feet dry... if deflating tires feet stay dry drink an adult beverage to celebrate!!!.... you're in the sand either way ENJOY IT!!!!
