Alright it looks like I'm the first one to get the Yamaha factory issued doors and grab handle for the passenger side. I also got the notice yesterday and immediately called my local yamaha dealer. They had a whole pallet of them in. They are retro fitting any year Rhino as long as you bring them your registration so they can record the VIn number in their database. I got home opened the box and it had no instructions how to install, just a bunch of hardware attached with the doors. So if any of you have already installed please post instructions. The dealer also said that they are fitting the rest of the new Rhinos from mow on with these doors and passenger grab handle.

The door are made of a thick strong plastic and resemble the J-strong doors. Theey also have a cool latch that allows them to swing right open.

The dealer has an obligation to install them. He/she is out of complience with their dealer agreement with Yamaha if they don't.

A suggestion it to have them install them. Its tricky and you need some special tools. Just look at the long bolts that go through the frame to attach the hinges. This is a special "tamper proof" allen head or special torx to hold the bolt and a jig and special long drill bit to drill the holes. If you drill incorrectly, you now get to purchase a new section of the frame/roll cage.

There is alot more than meets the eye when installing them.

My local dealer won't install the doors on my Rhino
because I bought it from another dealership.
They said that the owners who bought there have
priority. I called Yamaha customer service and
they said that this was a common complaint.
They should be calling my local dealership to let
them know that they are supposed to do the
retrofit on any owners Rhino. We will see.

When it runs...

So your point of your first post was, what?

Anyone have a pic of the doors installed?
ERIC92880
Just installed the new factory doors and it wasn't to bad just have to make a modification for the door lock. Sitting inside the rhino now seems alot safer with the doors protecting my legs.

Looks like they may take there toll on comfort when it comes to leg room width since they are on the inside of the support rails..

Had the doors installed a couple days ago. The latching action is good, but overall they are a bit flimsy. Also, they are spring loaded and will not stay open with out
holding them (can be a little irritating).

That's an easy fix bigal, just take off the rubber bungee rubber bands on the hinge and the doors will just stay wide open.

I called my dealer, and they told me that the MUST be the ones that install them. I am calling the guy that we know over there this week (assistant GM) to see if we can pick it up. Most of the guys at this dealer's service department are a bunch of dumbasses that I would not trust as far as I can throw them. We would much rather Doug install them.

And I don't know if Steve has a job or not. dunno.gif He sure likes to "help" keep the threads going, even on topics which do not pertain to him at all, and tpoics about things that he does not own and does not plan to own. We all know by now that his golfcart works great for him, which is fine by me. icon_biggrin.gif

You don't have to own a Rhino to understand Yamaha's product liability issues.

Unfortunately, their decision to ship them without doors to begin with may have been a very costy mistake. But they'll just pass those costs on to the consumer.

I still say Yamaha's only mistake was under estimating people's stupidity, the markets desire for UTV's, and the Mods that the aftermarket came up with. Accidents can and do happen, but to say it is Yamaha's fault is very Liberal of you Steve....

I saw some installation pics on another website, dealer totally hacked the guys rhino.

Attached is the rhino.pdf gives you all the information.

You will need some drill bits and a T-50 Tamper Proof tool. Other then that, just make sure you drill your holes STRAIGHT!... Get the holes off and it could be a pain. If you don't think you can drill your holes straight, have someone do it. I just eyeballed it and got them dead straight, but it could be really ugly if they were off.

C'mon...

you're going to have to read the posts much more carefully than that. And no, I'm not blaming your teachers for that.

laughing.gif

I never said Yamaha was at fault for any accident. Ever.

However, I do think that since the Rhino is capable of that top speed, and that it is fairly top heavy, it would have been prudent of them to install doors from the beginning, both as a safety feature and as a measure to limit liability.

Obviously they agree with that, or they wouldn't be sending out doors now, at great expense.

Think back to the first horseless carriages, then early cars, and what we have now on our cars for safety features. Seat belts, seats that don't collapse, airbags, side airbags, safety glass, ABS, stability control, crumple zones, etc etc.

Why do the mfrs put all this stuff into the cars? They would run just fine without them. For added safety. Nobody is saying that the mfrs are at fault for any accidents, but they are held responsible to build safe vehicles, as Yamaha should be.
Derwud
There is a huge difference between what Yamaha should have done and what the lawyers are forcing them to do... What's next based on your logic? Airbags for ATV's and dirt bikes. What about safety equipment for Sandrails, what shut my mouth, hey look at how fast they go and the amount injuries they can and do cause.

This issue is a lot more complicated than any of the posts here....

And yes, Steve I've read your post carefully, and while you never come out and say Yamaha is at fault, you dance around it like a Hola dancer on crack!
socaldmax
I don't dance around anything. I say precisely what I mean, and nothing more or less.

You can't refute that today's cars are safer than 40 yrs ago. In 10 yrs, UTVs will be safer than they are today. Ultimately, it is the driver's responsibilty to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. The mfr has a responsibility to make the vehicle reasonably safe.

Did you notice Mattell is recalling a third batch of toys totalling more than 800,000? Wanna guess why they are doing that? Out of fear of lawsuits, or is there really a safety problem with the toys?

Healing is going slowly, BUT much better with the hardware removed.. I'm wearing a brace right now that is forcing my leg straight and it streching muscles that haven't been used in 7 months! OUCH!!!!!

Getting around will be tough, but good for recovery..

I'll be easy to find, look for the big white guy with the Pimp Cane!!!

Are your guy's doors kicked a tiny bit outward on the front (where you drill the two holes into the bars). I noticed that mine are kicked out just a tad on each side about the same amount.

I am actually glad they do even if it's a mistake. Gives me just a tad more clearance for my knees, since I have long legs. Good ting is they don't rattle or pop open. Well maybe once! But it was a hard enough landing to break a few things! smile.gif
