I have an Autometer tach, When I set the shift point and start the motor the tach jumps up to the set point at idle, but when I rev the motor the tach read the right RPM's until the motor goes back to idle it jumps to the shift point again. Can anyone help?

everything is hooked up right, do you think it could be the tach? the previous owner of this rail had the tach hooked up to the wrong wire on the computer. Tach works fine, shift point doesn"t
