It's time for the September Duner Dinner BBQ and it's going to be at the dunes again this month. We're moving to saturday this month instead of friday so a few more people can attend (including our new TRT rep for Yuma Glenn Montgomery.)

It's the usual informal potluck. I'll drive my Manx out and bring the grill and some carne everyone else is encouranged to bring their own food but bring enough to share.

Starts at 7PM. Right now we're planning on Buttercup but it may get moved to Gordon's (I'll post when I know for sure) due to construction on I-8 that may leave the Buttercup exits temporarially closed.

Jason who is going on saturday I will be meeting up with Jim out their to get my new paddles.

Sounds like quite a few people this time.

Jim and his family have confirmed, and a few other people who help him out at the shop are thinking about stopping by.

KD Cycle is sending at least 2 people.

Lynn from Pair-A-Dice is going to try and stop by.

Matt, Roxanne, Me and Amy are all confirmed.

Natsfj40 from the ASA board is going to try and make it.

We're still trying to convince porboy to come down from Glamis biggrin.gif

And I seem to remember two or three other probables but it's getting hard to keep track of everyone in my head.

Wow that was our best turn out yet! Amy counted 28 people just before Porboys group showed up - he told me earlier that they would be bringing about 8 people so I figure we must have had at least 36 people there.

Couple of newcomers showed up and even more regulars. Jason's new car is looking, sounding, and apparently performing great! I finally got to see Jim's car in action and rode in the back of a four seater for the first time smile.gif Matt's buggy is back up and running again but needs a new battery....he also found a really nasty witches eye at the top of comp but thankfully Glenn was able to tug him out with the Jeep.

And our new TRT rep Glenn was already hard at work. There was the frame of a collapsed e-z-up that was there a month ago at the last Duner Dinner but no one drove a truck out so we had not way to haul it out. No one drove a truck this time either but a couple of BLM rangers cruised by and Glenn flagged them down. He asked if they could haul the trash up to the dumpsters but they said something about "We've got a guy who comes out and takes care of that kind of thing".

Glenn didn't accept that answer biggrin.gif He kept on them and eventually they loaded it up (with help from whoever was nearby at the time) and dragged it out. Apparently the ranger is from Yuma and he and his partner were the only guys on duty for the entire ISDRA today. THey had spent the whole day going from camp to camp starting at Buttercup, then going up to vendor flats, washroad and Gecko and finally back down to Buttercup again. They had given out something like 8 citations today. It also turned out that they don't have any toys and aren't duners other than to perform their duties as BLM Rangers.

The only thing that worries me is if we keep having this kind of turn out the pot-luck will have to be a little more formal biggrin.gif We had TONS of food show up today! Not only the Cheesecake but also some rice that Nats made which got rave reviews. Some of that Holtville carne from MPR, 10 lbs of the carne I get, homemade pasta salad, Lots of different chips and salsas, and I don't know what all else since I was pretty busy at the grill and greeting people biggrin.gif But it filled two tables and then some!

Plus to top things off we had a couple of shirts (trueexcitement.com) and some can coolers (Racecraft) that we gave away near the end of the evening. Porboys group wasn't going to stick around for the goodies (they had to drive back up to Glamis still and it was getting late) but it was a good thing they did since most of them got to pick up some goodies.

Thanks again to everyone who made it out, I hope you all had a great evening! The next YumaDuners event is our in town Dinner on the second tuesday of next month. Be sure to visit YumaDuners.com for more details since we may be moving it to a new (more family friendly) location. Next months BBQ is on hiatus since it would be the same weekend as the poker run. Instead we'll just look to see everyone there and maybe have a BBQ in our camp afterwards if there's interest.

It was nice to meet everybody and I had a good time maybe next time I will get my wife to go with me. Thank you Jason for doing the cooking and getting everyone together. Jim thanks for the tires and I would have to say you make a bad @ss car.

That was a great time. More people that at any other, actually, it probably more than all of the YumaDuner Dinner BBQ's combined. laugh.gif Jason, Matt, and I were extremely happy to see all of you there.

We had two other "long haul" attendees. LTZ400 (on the ASA BBS) and his wife came down from Yucca Valley to have dinner and ride their quads at Buttercup. This was their first time to this end of the dunes. Thanks for coming down!

We also met two BLM LEO Rangers (Ted and Dan) as Jason mentioned. They had been patroling all day from one end of the dunes to the other and had issued 8 citations of various infractions that day. I didn't talk to Dan much, but Ted seems to have a great attitude. He said that he believes in being polite, even when giving you a citation. smile.gif I look forward to seeing them around.

We had to smash that EZ-Up frame pretty good to get it in the back of Ted's truck, but we did it. laugh.gif They said they had picked up 5 bags of trash at Buttercup earlier.

The only downside to the evening was that I forgot to pack my air compressor, so I didn't air down the tires as usual. The Jeep did still make it up Comp with the 20 lbs. of air I run on the street. A couple of time we had to pray

See you all at the next YumaDuner Dinner. Come on over and join us.

Had a great time and it was a perfect nite for it. You would think my daughter and Jim's had known each other for years! Still wish I'd of brought out the quads tho.
What's the scoop on the move on the city get togethers?
jhitesma
No scoop yet...still looking for suggestions.

Kathy at KD suggested Villiage Inn Pizza today. I know some other duners who always stop in there so it may not be such a bad idea. I'll have to call over there and talk to them about groups and stuff.

We're also thinking about doing BBQ's in some local parks instead on the Tuesday night things.

The next three final fridays fall on big dune weekends - so we're not sure what we'll do yet since those are weekends Matt and I are normally up at Glamis instead of down at the south dunes.
