Has anybody ever hooked up a light on a non-lighted whip?
If so what did you use/do? :?

yeah, i got a socket from a car ath the junk yard, ran 2 wires along the whip, and used heat shrink to cover the whip and wires. used a couplke different sizes of heat shrink to hold the socket to the whip too.

I was looking at the 1156 sockets but there is only one wire. Dont these need a ground wire?

Yes, solder a 2nd wire to the socket and run it down to ground with the hot wire.

So I picked up a 1156 socket and 2 bulbs for under $6 bucks.
Now do I just solder a wire anywhere on the socket?
Then connect it to the ground wire of the tail lights?

I use Tire Flys too. Just picked up a pack of 2 at Pep Boys. They had like 5 colors. Different name though. $10 for 2 lights and 2 extra sets of batteries. I put tape on the whip, then screw down the light onto the whip. Then you can change batteries without taking the whole thing off. Also, unscrew the light, squeeze the little metal contacts onto the spring. This will allow the light to stay on all the time. Just unscrew the light a little to turn it off.

Thanks for the tips. I hooked up my 1156 light and it's very bright.
I will probably hook up the tire fly things after I get my after market lights. I need as much light as possible.
