Thanx in advance for any info.

Took out my yfz 450 to pismo labor day weekend. Ater about 1/2 hour of ridding the bike started smoking like it was a damn train. Checked the oil level, as soon as i took the dipstick out oil was overflowing there was also a lot of oil in the air cleaner box at least half a quart of oil in there. Any ideas why this would hapenedand what im looking at to fix.
Bugsy
hm,mm... did you put too much oil in it?

raptyui
I havent done the oil change on it, its not even broken in yet took it to dumont the begining of the year used it for about 3 hrs and havent touched it since until this past weekend. the only thing i did to it is empty the gas tank.
GWTT
oil in the air box usually result of over oiling an air filter. ive seen dealers over oil them and its a pool.

I think he means engine oil, not air filter oil.

Try draining a small amount of the oil from the external tank. Afterwards run the motor for a few minutes, shut off to cool. Repeat till you get a normal reading on the dipstick.

I would do an oil and oil filter change and double check your levels and see how it goes form there.

No It goes on a trailer

As far as the carb would there be any big damage to it, or just a simple carb cleaner.

My generator on the trailer did the same thing when I checked the oil one time. Thought it was ruined but a tech guy said it was because the plug fouled. I changed the plug and oil and it's run fine ever since. Don't know if this helps but thought I'd share.

I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner, changed the spark plug, did the oil change and it smoked for about 20 min then it stopped but it started backfiring. i'll end up taking it to the local shop for a carb adjustment.

When I first bought my 06 I would get oil in the airbox. After awhile it stopped. Sounds like too much oil in yours, either that or a blown head gasket. If the oil looks milky thats what it is. Did you have your filter on when you started it up? If not it would run lean and backfire.

For sure not a blown gasket, oil is not milky at all. As far as the filter it wasnt on when i started it up, it was being cleaned. I'll start the bike with the filter on see if the backfiring sopts. Thanx for the info.
