I have one of those Vertex standards for my base radio for camp.. You just need to have it programmed to the correct channels. The dealer I got mine from programmed in a bunch of the off road channels as well as some marine channels so I can use it as a back up on my boat.

Go to www.theantennafarm.com and save yourself a couple hundred bucks. Any radio will work with the intercom, just need the correct connector installed. We use the Kenwood TM-271 for all our chase and base radios. They work real good.

Eric, save yourself the headaches and get your set up from Scott at PCI. If you're trying to save a few bucks, get only two headsets instead of 4 or 5. This way you don't have to eff with getting the correct channels, shipping, warranty, etc. etc....

The Vertex radios are one of the best available. They make Mil Spec radios used in a lot of the race trucks / cars in the desert. They will also work with the intercom systems available. What I really like about them is the Alpha Numeric display so you can program the radio to say "Joe 1" "Joe 2" etc... If you have any other questions pm me and I will help you out.

If you are looking for a radio to work with the intercom, I went with PCI... One good reason to use PCI is because you can get the Vertex radio with a pig tail out the back instead of having to attach the intercom connection cable to the front of the radio via the speaker/mic plug. It does cost more for this option but it is much cleaner install having that cable connect to the back of the radio instead of hanging out the front.

Thats guys for all of the information! I think that I might take Franks advice and just get a set from PCI, with only two headsets for now.
