Nope. Fireworks aren't legal anywhere in California. We've lit them off at Buttercup several times. We were in the dunes. A ranger rolled up on a quad and knew what we were doing. He just wanted to make sure we weren't broke down. He left without hassling us. Not sure if I'd risk it now. They seem to be cracking down on everything else.

Hell even model rockets are illegal in CA unless you have approval from the local fire chief. CA's got the most strict laws against that kind of stuff in the entire country. And the federal laws are getting worse and worse since 9/11

ive been told they are illegal cuz its consided a park or something like that we even ask well its not a fire threat but they said its illegal anyway. ive also hear that a red or blue flashing light on a stationary vechile is illegal too. i guess it means its law inforcement or someone is in trouble. i think its another thng for them to harrass us about.

I'm thinking fireworks are still legal in Imperial County. Just the cheesy roadside stuff but still.

Ok this confuses me. :roll2: One reply said it's illegal for fireworks or firearms. Another reply said it's legal for firearms. The sheet the BLM gave me said it's legal to shoot as long as your at least 1/4 mile away from campsites. Now would this apply to fireworks?
I'm lost and scared. Somebody hold me.

The shooting at Glamis is a real confusing one...
In short...
The BLM, (who have their heads so far up their own asses to know what is going on), say that it's legal to shoot on BLM land as long as all state and local laws are adhered to... They then go on to say that it's ok to shoot in the dunes.
The only problem is that CALIFORNIA law states that it is illegal to shoot within 100yards (or something like that) of a recreational area (generic term meaning an orginized place where people recreate)...
Glamis is a RECREATIONAL AREA, therefore, according to CALIFORNIA LAW it's illegal to shoot at the ISDRA.
Fireworks on BLM land is illegal.

If it's FUN, and you're in CALIFORNIA, there's probably a law against it...

I got a warning from a CDF Ranger at Buttercup on Saturday night for lighting off fireworks, they were cool, but did say it was illegal.

gotpower- Damn how much gas did you use? Pretty soon we will all get fined for dumping gas at the gas station when we top off and it hits the ground there.. Seems pretty petty too me...

IMHO gas is for pansies. Woo, you made a big burst of fire for about 10 seconds....but you still can't keep the REAL fire lit
I've never needed anymore than some old newspapers, or a handfull of bark, or torn up boxes from soda or beer along with a little something to fan the flames. And then about the time the "gas guys" fire is in need of another dowsing of gas I've got a fire going that's bigger than their is when the gas hits it....and stays big for the rest of the night

Save the gas for the bikes/quads/buggies and trucks. Learn to build a real fire and stay warm all night if you're not going to use that gas to ride.
