He is banking on the fact that they are not readily available. It will be awhile before you can just go down and get one off the floor.

My cousins shop 10 west motorsports has one on the floor, the sticker was 8500 I believe. It is sold but they can not release them due to a problem with the rear brake caliper or carrier cracking. They are sweet for sure!

Consider how much a set of custom shocks cost and motorwork on a 450 and you can clear $11K on a new bike just there. This bike isn't in direct competetion with the japanese. It's in a league of it's own. Reliability is yet to be proven as shown by the previous recall but expected with a brand new machine.

Well there is one in town 10K otd , but the rear caliper is messed up and they are waiting on parts ( have been waiting for a few weeks now) I would not buy a first year quad and as far as looking at cost for it compared to building one set up for you . You are not close. I am ohlins dealer and asked them about the shock set up on the KTM, it is set up for 185-205 an d sprung for MX racing. SO maybe it works for you and then again maybe it does not. And there are going to be issue with the new KTM I dig it dont get me wrong, I have a new ltr and was close to getting the KTM. But I think the issue will be getting the bugs worked out and then waiting to get parts. As well there is going to be slim pickings for any aftermarket items for it for at least a year maybe more. If they do huge changes from the first year model to 09 versions . you are really screwed.

Some things are cool and others well I will let others jump on that deal been there with several other bands when I just had to have the latest and greatest. THen got to wait on parts for months while my buddy are out riding there 2 year quads that they can pull parts from just about any where

From what I understand, the stock rear axle is adjustable to 2" over, factory 2" over chromoly a arms are available, the motor is out of the 525 bike, which I have and love it is the only thing that motor is being used by KTM for now. It is a tractor and pulls to the moon! Not to mention it looks killer!! Do it sandjunkie!!!

I understand some people's reluctance to buy a first year quad...I have felt the same about several other purchases on big ticket items...BUT...I had one of the first 20 LTR's released in California...heard all the "Never buy a first year..especially with the fuel injection and new motor" arguments...and I have NEVER had 1 single issue from my LTR...and I met some incredible people in the ATV industry just because I had one and they needed one for testing...got alot of free products & other stuff...

So as far as the KTM?...My take is that the motor is rock solid and HAS been for a number of years...no argument about the shocks...about the only thing left is the frame and we all know KTM is a quality company with a superb reputation...I really don't see a down side except for parts availability...and we had the same problem with the LTR...just forced us to either make our own parts or work close to the manufactures that wanted to develop product...in the end we learned more about our quads than if we just sat back and bolted on anything we thought might benefit us...
