I picked up the Sandwinder chassis today. The power plant will be a LS2 out of a 2006 GTO and running a Kevin McMulling 2D. I am going to try out the high angle shaft from Jesse.

Good choice on the roller from Sandwinder....but didnt you just get rid of one?
ccie6872
This biggest issue I am having now is I cant get the tranny and motor come together.. I used a clutch alignment tool and it seamed perfectly aligned.. Anything a normal person forgets when mounting the engine and tranny? Is it best to connect to the two outside the car and then mount it?? TIA!

This is my first time building a car so I will be full of questions! 1dude.gif 1dude.gif 1dude.gif

I did, loved the car and went with another.. Wanted something a little different and project.. The timing didn't work out and was hoping the build start about 4 weeks ago

Alright, got the motor and tranny together. The GTO oil tank will definetly not work.. What is involved in replacing with a corvette oil pan? What additional parts do I need?
LEGACY
Looks good

I really like the hoops so you can run Jess's axles. That is the first set of hoops I have seen that actually look really clean. Very nice car.

Trade me your LS2 for my LS1. My oil pan will work just fine in there for you....... sraptor.gif

Smart choice going with Sandwinder, but you already know that. Congrats! 25cheers.gif

IT IS ALIVE!!! icon_hot.gif icon_hot.gif icon_hot.gif icon_hot.gif icon_hot.gif

It is finally coming all together.. I just about done with the wiring and can start organizing and making it look pretty.. I have a few questions as my plans are to head out to glamis a week from today (Nov 1).

1. It seams to be mis firing on the odd side (right side if I was looking at the pulleys). All cylinders appear to be firing, but there is popping in the headers and just doesn't sound smooth.. Left side sounds perfect.. What troubleshooting can I do?

2. My airfilter is crunched with the wing, I have seen 90 degree rubber bends.. where can I buy this? Tom Fish1 - what do you use?

3. Starter likes to grind before syncing with the flywheel.. How common is this for a new starter and new flywheel, etc... It doesn't do it all the time, but I would say 50% of the time.. Grant it, I have only started it about 1/2 dozen times... Do I need a shim...if so how??

Thanks to everyone!

When you start it up touch the header pipes and see if all 4 are hot. If 1 or 2 are cold that will tell you what cyl. is not firing. I had kinda the same problem when my motor sat for a while. How long did your sit?
When you know what cyl is not firing make 2 little jumpers that will fit inside the injector(2 prongs)
Turn your ign. ON but do not start(fuel pump on)
And touch those 2 prongs to 12volts(1 ground 1 positive) doesnt matter which one
You want to cycle the injector so just tap the voltage(on-off-on-off.......) to the batt.
The pressure from the fuel pump and fully opening the injector should clear it out
Just remember to TAP the voltage DO NOT leave it on

And if you don't think it's a fuel/injector problem ignore all that.

Looking good too

All cyclinders are firing (all are hot)... The motor did sit for about three or so months... Hmmmmm... I need to recheck my harness wiring.. Would a miss wiring of a injectors throw the timing off?

Left side of the motor sounds perfect...maybe a spark plug?

My starter did the grinding thing on my old car, it never went away.
Finally the starter gave up and I put a new one in, never did it again after that.

For the miss, is the motor in limp mode?
My motor went into limp mode last weekend and it ended up being a relay.

Make sure your coil harness is pluged into the rite coils & injector harness is plugged into the rite injectors, get 2 of any of these crossed and it can do that. Double check them as I've had guys swear that there all correct and I'll go over to there place and run through there wires and find a couple of them switched, Its not hard to do. The other thing that can happen. I don't know how long U let it run, but a lifter can bleed down and take a few minites to get the air out of the system and pump back up.Good luck and let us know what U find. 25cheers.gif

I had the same problem with my old car, and one of the injectors wasnt working. If you can borrow a infared heat gun, you can aim it at each exhaust port and see which one isnt firing. If thats ok, then I would go to your coils next.

For the most part the weekend was a 100% success. It started a little rough and was immediately shooting up to about 240 degrees after about 1/4 mile away from camp. It didn't help that it was very hot on Thursday. My buddy and I burped it about five times, drove it up a dune to get a good angle and did it a few more times. I wasn't getting any improvements and the radiator line flowing into the motor was luke warm and the return to the radiator was very hot. We decided to take the freeze plug out (which had a 1/4" hole) and drilled another hole about 1/2". Re-installed and instantly it was flowing and temp held, and dropped with the fans on. While duning is stuck to about 200 and 208ish while hard duning.. I am not sure why the 1/4" hole that everyone uses did not work, the hole was not centered in the freeze plug but I have a hard time believing that was it.

The other issue that happens randomly is while idling it jumps from 800 to 1300 rpm. Very very consistent bounce and only does it once and awhile (never while cold).. While driving it runs very very strong and never get that bounce. I am going to play around with the IAC off the throttle body, that is only thing I can think of.. any suggestions?

Thanks again for everyones help as thing car ran really really good and burned almost 50 gallons of gas. A special thanks to Bruce at CBM for answering all of my questions over the last few weeks and walking me through troubleshooting the idling issue while standing in sand highway. His computer made my car run like a champ and the low, close ratio gearing of the kevin mcmullens 2D made this car run almost as strong as my other Sandwinder that had 496 RWHP..
