That's what I thought. ITP sent me a replacement and it leaks just as bad. They told me it has to be the rim but same tire 3 different rims.

Is there really a benifit to running bead locks on your sand tires. To me its just extra weight

Nvr leak, nvr fall of the bead, if flat the tire will nvr spin on the rim, you can run extremely low pressure and they are strong as hell. I didnt think they were any heavier then my sandstars and itp t-9's.(which bent and leaked)

For you? Probably not.
For those who pound the crap out of their quads and need full flexiblity in tire pressures? OH YES!!!
I run my fronts very low and with the bead locks I have no concerns about a bead coming undone.
For joe blow, the only gain is that they look good and you won't ever have to worry about loosing a tire, even if you get a flat you can limp it home. I've ridden a totally flat tire balls out and it held on just fine the whole way home.
If you want a good set of bead locks, contact Bones at OMF Performance in Riverside, CA.

I belive you're looking at around 120-140 a wheel. Price goes up the more complex you get.
Mine are simple but work nicely

I had a set of Sand Stars on ITP Rims and they never leaked. I owned the tires for about 2 years and they were perfect about all the time. Now I have a set of STU Padla Brats Comp Cut. First ride out and I picked up a thorn. Lost 2 lbs per hour. I sealed the tires with Berrymans Tire Sealant and now I'm good to go. Doesn't leak one bit.
100% recommend the Berrymans. Run far and fast away from SLIME. Don't use SLIME in aluminum rims.
Good luck,
Larry
P.S. You should try and clean your bead ... a little sand in the bead can make them leak.

I have two sets of sandstars . On the ITP rims two of them would leak about two pounds in a week . I added a small amount of slime and it sealed them . They held the air all summer . I have a new set on Douglas rims and they have held the same pressure for 3 weeks so I am ok with them . Could be the rims .

Good luck. If it still doesn't work out, then you will be up shopping for sand tires again.
Here is some great info I found somewhere... out there on the net:

All suggestions below are on Douglas .125 rims...
Prices include rims and are guesstimates but should be pretty close.
I use Joe at Fullerton for all my tire purchases and several of the below tires you can only get from him...great guy and I have been buying tires from him since 1988.
Drag combo:
STU Paddla Brats 21X12X8 6 paddle $470
Skat Trak Mowhawks 21X7X10 $170
STU Razorbacks 22X8X10 $220
Best turning/duning tire:
STU Sand Skate I Comp Cut 21X12X10 $430
STU Razorbacks 22X8X10 $220
Do all everywhere combo:
Tebo cut 22X14X10 $475
Razorbac 22X8X10 $220
The Tebos do not accelerate as fast as the brats and do not turn as good as the skates...right in the middle.
SourceI bought the STU Padla Brats and Razorbacks and I do love them. It takes some time getting used to straight 6 paddles coming from a V paddle, but the hookup is unbelievable!

There is no 1 tire for everyone and every bike. Different bikes call for a different tire.

My sandstars leak air slowly...I just deal with it.
Every morning when I check the oil and other basic things before a ride I shoot some air in both sides.

got a set of Sand Stars on our 450r, had them since 05 and this summer they started to leak air for the first time.
very slow leak though. if you got 10 bucks, take them to gilmore and they will dismount, clean, and remount them.
works for a while til you get more sand in the bead from running a low air pressure.
