Mine seems to pull 3rd easy.. Gets up my drive in 2nd also

Because of this thread, I've spent 2 days tryin to get my 70 going again. I cleaned all the rust out of the tank, cleaned the carb, got a new plug, new oil, new fuel filters and still nothing. I took the plug out, tried to get a spark...nothing. So I had a friend try to pull it while I switched the "on/off" switch from on to off, back and forth. I noticed I got a spark halfway between each and thats all. It would'nt spark held in that spot, only from moving from off to on.
I'm thinking new on/off switch...or take it apart, clean it and see if anythings loose/corroded. What do you guys think?

i had no problem pulling 4th gear on mine,its faster than i thought,we need to find watno and esco one now so does tres man this is going to be fun
Toy Collector, unplug your on/off switch and check for spark. If still no spark check the points gap. No gap, no spark. We have found this problem on almost all of our 70's. Like Bill said just replace the points and condensor, it's cheap. You will need a flywheel puller to do this.

A friend has a 85 that he might be selling, in really good condition. I'd buy it but there's other things on the list. When I get the final word, I'll let everyone know.

Well after all of this 70 talk I got off of my ass and started messing with the one in the garage again. It is an 83 and was my sons first bike it has been a part of the family since 95. After cleaning the carb and putting a new plug in it fired on the second pull. Now it is time to start the work the carb is running gas out of the overflow so I guess a carb kit and new float are in order. Followed by some chrome and paint my wife is going to freak haha. Well thanks guys for putting a new project in the garage now I will never finish landscaping the house.
Wish I had a project lying around the house like that, all I have is a 90 and a 110.

practice makes perfect on the wheelies.....try to keep them in the sand when you first start....less damage to the arse and the 70

Well we did the drags on Friday. Yes I was there, all three of my 70's had riders. It was fun, and we stayed to the side and had a golf cart with police lights for some sort of saftey  , yea right. The crowd was screaming and taking lots of pictures, anyone have one please post it. Dallas got tackled by some of her 2.5 leggers and gramps flipped a wheeeeeeelie, but no other mishaps. Hey all, been lurking on this board for awhile but never said hi. Wondering if there was anyone in the San Diego area that could give me a hand getting a 70 I just got to run. I have good spark, fuel, air and compression. Just wont pop off. Im kinda at my end on this one. Thanks, Lee.

What year is it? What does the spark look like? Just guessing here but when I was having trouble with mine it was the points. But I am no expert these guys can help you out if I am way off for sure.
1983 and spark is bluish yellow.
Well Stonehenge, I just droped it off to a fixit place in Imperial Beach. If he cant get it running or its gonna cost a arm and a leg, I will keep you in mind. Thanks for the info!
