Full Version: Train Track Fence.

If you haven't heard, there is a fence being built along the train tracks. Me personally, I don't mind, it does prevent people from trying to cross it, and that is a big safety concern. Plus, it doesn't affect Night Trains, it is perfect distance away to stand and watch the night trains go buy. However, during our recent EPO weekend, Chummin spotted a Coyote running along the tracks (The dudes got fricken eagle eyes), then the coyote popped down along the fence and was traveling along the fence line.

Look just after the set of bushes, you can see the coyote running along the fence. Does the fence prevent the coyote from getting its food? Maybe so. I think the coyote could hop right over the fence no problem, and the fence does separate at each train tressle. However, what if you were a handicapped coyote? Or maybe a gay coyote; discriminations? Maybe an older coyote that needs handicapped walkways? I am just joking to a point. It might create a certain environmental impact. I think the fence looks nice, and probably won't affect much at all. However, Slappy has always told me to look out for our Glamis critters.

So long as that fence does not continue into one big circle around Glamis.....

The latest ASA Newsletter about Vendorization is not sitting well with me.

Mrs. Bear Down
I'm thinking its going to be a trap for the winds to throw crap at it and stick to it... making glamis look even uglier!! Who's going to maintain and clean the fence lines?? What about smaller critters that can't jump the fence??? Once a good amount of trash rests against it, even smaller critters won't be able to even crawl through it...

does all this make sense?

What about the tortoises? The BLM was forced to use the coyote/ raven proof dumpsters to protect the desert tortoises right? How can they go over the fence?

So how exactly does a fence like that get built without a huge bitch-fest from the CBD and their ilk? I'm guessing since the railway is private property, that has something to do with it... not that that's ever stopped them before.

Mrs. Beardown makes an excellent point. It's gonna be a catch-all for trash...

Its never about the environment or the animals with the CBD.
Its all about; how much money they can get from a lawsuit.

I guess they didn't think there was any money to be made from suing the RR as opposed to suing the Government.

is it a contuious fence or are there small openings every X amount of feet for animals? would be a smart idea. that or cut small area low side of the fence. remember its to keep us out not animals...
Timmay
What's the fence made of? Maybe "someone" could cut a few small inconspicous(sp) critter openings here and there?
South Bay
What's the over/under on how long before some idiot cuts open a quad sized hole in the fence? ? ?

Easy Cheesy Maccaroni...

Robbie
just remember, the fence belongs to the railroad.
and so does wash road

why would anyone want to talk about destroying or damaging someone elses private property ? Does that sound like a good resposable duner ?? 25bangin.gif

Im all for personally and dont have a issue, especially after the last asshat lost his new duramax on the tracks. It cost the railroad time and money as well as made all of us duners look bad.

As Robbie said , be glad and appreciate the fact they allow us to use washroad.

As far as trash goes, should be easier to clean and collect the trash.

Just out of curiousity what happens to the trash when the fence is not there? It's not like it just dissappears, it's still trash being blown around. It's our responsibilty to clean up our trash not the individuals maintaining the fence.

As far as the animals, I could see the fence having a negative impact on them.

private property doesnt mean you get to do whatever you want.
there are codes, rules, ccr's, zoning, and lots of things to deal with.

Unfortunately the RR doesnt have to worry about these silly things... I dealt with them in a past job and they can do what they want and the world around them must adapt. I guaran dam tee you that there was no enviro studies at all regarding this fence or it's potential impacts.

Potentially dumb question: Does the RR really own wash road? There seems to be a perfectly usable road on the west side of the trax for maintenance.

I had to research this question when I got a ticket 4 years ago on the Wash Road. The Wash Road belongs to the Rail Road and they have given the BLM the OK to use it. I have been told but never researched it full, but the Rail Road owns a one mile strip along both sides the tracks. If this is true then they also own most of the washes also. Ted Kiff(sp) road is a maintained county road and is on the county maps. The use of OHV's on the road is prohibited. The Sheriff is usually OK with using it from the highway to Boardmanville but after that they will ticket you.

The difference between government agencies and a company/corporation (like the railroad) is that a private company can tell tell someone like CBD to go F**k themselves. The Government is spineless and will give anyone a chance to throw a wrench into the cog progress.

I'm sure if anyone came to the Railroad people to discuss the enviromental impact, they just laughed.

I was getting ready to leave when he flipped me the bird as he went in the door . I picked up the shopping cart I just unloaded and installed it in his windshield and kicked all four of his doors in . Bet he thinks twice when he opens the door to his vehicle now .

On county maps the railroad easment is shown to be 100 feet from the cenerline of the tracks, it does take in wash road but not much else.

Thanks I could never find that information.

Please don't damage the fence. It is a good looking fence, and I think it's a good idea. The only fact I was bringing up was would it have an impact on critters from getting from one side to the other. And when I mean critters, I'm not talking about Chummin on a bad day. But it is cut at all the tressles. I dig the train; night trains, and the conductors that give you a wave and a horn honk when they go by.
Esco
get this thing built to the 78 quick please

You're not kidding Esco, get it done now. Hell, I'll even help.
