So I am finally getting around to replacing the FAILED starter clutch on my '01
Put the puller on the flywheel and one of the three 8mm bolts that were screwed in as far as they could go, flew out of it's threads like a BULLET! Fortunately no one was in the way.
The bolt itself gave way. It looks like the flywheel thread is just fine.
I will try again with stronger bolts. Or am I missing something? I know that a taper fit (that holds the flywheel on) can be really strong, but this seems rediculous!
Will I have to drill out the 8mm tapped holes and go up to a 10mm?
Any other DIY'ers out there that have faced this?

Yeah... I finally got it off.
Drilled out the tapped holes in the flywheel and tapped them to 10mm. It was still a chore, but I did get it off.

Well, after a long break, got the thing back together again. Just like the sites say, it was the spring. All stretched out and ugly.
Not sure how long the rubber part will hold up, but I am hoping that in the future I can change out the o-ring in less than 2 hours.
Most of my time was spent figuring out how to get that flywheel off!
