Obituary
Roy E. Kaltschnee Jr., 88, of Winchester, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born October 19, 1919, in Springfield, the son of Leroy and Edith Oettle Kaltschnee. He married Mary Werries December 12, 1958, and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Kenneth (wife, Wanda) Kaltschnee of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, Cheryl (husband, Dr. Richard) Benedon of Bell Canyon, California; one stepson, Richard (wife, Joyce) Taylor of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Kaltschnee was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a radio operator. He attended Iowa State where he received a degree in agriculture. He worked for the State of Illinois as a conservation officer for 30 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Kaltschnee was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Conservation Law Enforcement Fellowship Club, Moose Lodge, Tri-County Whitetail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and Winchester High School Chain Gang for 49 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2007, at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Winchester with burial in Winchester City cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Condolences may be left at mackeydaws.com.
