Did you know that it is a federal crime to return a desert tortoise to it's natural environment after it has been in captivity? Cuzzin Eddy and I saw this tortoise get released by it's previous owner near our daughter's school. Dumping captive tortoises back into the wild is a big NO NO because of the germs that we humans carry on us gets transferred to them and they can carry it back into the natural tortoise population and possibly wipe them out. The biggest problem that baby tortoises face for the first 7 years of life is the raven/black crow. Because the baby's shells are relatively soft until they are 7 the crows will peck through the shell and kill the baby.
We have now officially adopted her and her name is Holly and she is aboout 10 years old

She is like a cat, but with a shell. She loves a good head scratch, and her favorite food is grapes. She also eats broccoli, a little red leaf lettuce, spinich, brussell sprouts and cabbage.
