I was kicking myself for not having my camera but a nice looking rhino went up in flames yesterday on sand highway. From what I heard it was only 2 months old. It had a full roll cage, 4 seats, light bar and custom wheels/tires. We saw the smoke from a distance and went to investigate. I feel sorry for whoever owned it.. Anyone got any pics?

I heard today that an Arctic Cat rolled and burned to the ground. The witness told me it was fully engulfed in less than a minute.

True with the old glass filters .... but have you ever seen a plastic one break. I have never heard of a plastic one breaking.... Just curious.

I was there on scene fairly early. The Cat rolled on to the passenger side and a small flame started in about the middle of the car. We tried to put it out with throwing sand on it and it controlled it for a while. A couple of folks stopped by with fire extinguishers and tried to put it out to no avail. Once it got to the plastic gas tank it was done. I spoke briefly to the driver and his leg was hurting him badly. It didn't take long for lots of help and LEOs to be there.

hmmm. I'm wondering if it was the same event? I could have sworn it was a rhino but I could be wrong. I didnt hear of a roll over either. I know there was at least 1 and maybe 2 infants strapped in the back. I heard a rumor that the mom looked back to see how they were doing and noticed the back of the driver seat on fire. Might be just a rumor though.

That sounds like a different fire....the Arctic cat cartwheeled after a front balljoint broke.....then caught on fire. Two people in that one.....
A rhino with kiddos in the back and a mom and no rollover sounds totally different....?

Hey Guys, i am new to this forum. As far as what burned, it was a Rhino and it was mine. We had it for 3 months. Yes, it was also true about the kids in the back(1yr and 4yrs) and they are both safe. I should have some before and after pics posted later. Also, the pic is not of mine.

I still don't know what happened. I am taking it to Yamaha tomorrow. I have had issues with the fuel system twice. The first time it was the fuel pump and the second time the carburetor fell off. I've never done anything to the motor before it is stock.

Glad to heard you all made it out ok...thats the important thing. Its good that you havent done anything to the motor....might get some sort of warranty replacement out of them. I saw you and your wife standing there but you didnt look too happy so I steered clear!!!

Funny you mention filters. I loaded the kids Quad on Sunday, then the rhino. Shut the door. Walked back up front and the fuel smell was horrible. Looked down below the quad and there was a constant drip from the filter ( plastic )
So glad i caught that one when I did. Could have been bad.

The only thing that might be salvageable is the rollcage, but i don't know if the heat would effect the strength. Oh and the cotter pin that held the ice chest strap.

Insurance is key with machines worth this much money - and like i said, if I didn't have to carry an extinguisher for racing, I probably wouldn't think to have one in my rhino........ after these pics, I might just get a bigger one!

so sorry to see that. was very nice. the cage should be fine, but if you want to be sure, you could have it checked at a place like Certified Steel where they cook metal for lack of a better term.

I had an engine fire in my 06 Rhino two weeks ago. We think there was a backfire (Lectron carb) and the aftermarket air filter caught on fire. I had just put a fire extinguisher on board before the trip. I guess I was lucky with the amount of damage I sustained after looking at those pics. I am getting a larger fire extinguisher for mine.

The motor was stuttering earlier in the day but was running good at that time. Yes it did have the stock air filter set up on it. No engine work at all, completely stock.
