Hello,
The group I go to the dunes with on thanksgiving had a little problem on our 10 day stint at glamis, one of our funco's broke reverse on teh MDS in a bad situation in the dunes (burried the car and then dropped the clutch in reverse ranting.gif ). When we got a MDS4 -2d from sweet maries we went back to camp and started the process of ripping the car apart and putting it back together, when all was said and done (10 hour job and pulled it from 5pm to 3am and had a completed car). the only problem we found was its stupid to find how the gates line up for shifter selection and gear gates, I personally always make sure the tranny is in nuetral and line the linkage up, however, my freinds became frustrated found first gear in tranny and shifter and Re-tapped a counter sink hole and called it a day.... HOW does Mendi recommend setting a tranny and shifter in sink????

thank you
Adam

Never drop the clutch in reverse, those are still VW components and they designed if for 40 hp not 400 hp. Now as far as setting the shifter how we go at it is turning the shift shaft on the trans all the way CCW and then pulling out on it, the gear box is now in reverse set the shifter to reverse and install the screw and you should be ready to go now if you need to put the dimple in the shaft then more work neccesary but usaually the dimple is already there. Hope this helps!
