Build one nice car.......

You all know I am an SCU guy and will always be, however.....

After frying my clutch on Sat. afternoon I decided to ride shotgun with Dr. Duneflyer on Sun. am - thanks Pat...

Then while sitting at Brawley slide I asked Duane(Bohica) if I could ride with him on the way back...He was kind enough to say - why don't you drive - I said, Done...

That was one fun ride - car handled fantastic and had power for days. What a great time. This was my first time driving a Funco and it was fantastic. Following Pat allowed me to really play with the car and it was a hoot n anny!!!

Thanks Duane.

Glad you had fun. Friends are always asking for rides and if I know they can dune, I always tell them to take it for a spin. Only way to really experience what a Funco can do is to drive one. thumb.gif

Does Funco ever give demo drives? I'll leave my car while I try out one of there's!!!! Still can't get the ride with tripod out of my head.
MAG-COMM
Funco loves to give Demo rides! We will be in Dumont on New Years, Glamis for MLK. Call Grant at the shop and set up a time and place.

If you're considering buying a new car, you owe it to yourself to get a demo ride with Grant. One of the best rides of my life was that demo. 5 years later, I still can't get it out of my head.

On a side note, if it's your wifes first ever ride in a rail, you might want to leave her in camp..icon_wink.gif That same demo ride was my wife's first, and she got out of the car white as a sheet, shaking. It took six months, and a ride with (you guessed it, Bohica) to get her to agree to me getting our first funco. The good thing is she's never seen me get close to what she experienced, so she know's the car can handle what I throw at it..icon_wink.gif

Well, I thought I would share my first ride in a Funco...

I pulled into the George camp, and said hello to Grant..
He pointed to a Funco, parked right there, and said, take that one, drive it as hard as you want, bring it back when you're done, let me know how you like it..

WOW!

What class.. What a ride.. I wrote Grant a check.. thumb.gif

That is one sweet car, think I through a little sand on it this past weekend. Funco's have always been my favorite car.
We were out by Osborne lookout taking a little break, saw my little dream car running around, the Hustler 3. Looked like a little RC car rippin it up.

Isnt there some kind of wife swap in that arrangement?? icon_wink.gif

First funco I drove was Bohicas car.. I beat on it pretty hard and will say the same thing Deanasauras said.. peace.gif

I know if I ever drive one I will be writing a check
allthrottlenobottle
Maybe I should re think the whole test drive thing, cuz I will have yo sell my car first. Any one looking for a 750 HP 5 seat mid engine taht will do over 120?????? There is nothing worse that wanting something new and having to sell something first. P.S. How bout trade in???

I have never been crazy about the looks but all these people can't be wrong about the performance. I am seriously considering a ride in one of these before pluncking down the dough for a new SCU next season. I don't hear stories of people switching brands after they have a FUNCO either. What makes them work so well? Is it the airbag suspension? Give me your thoughts/opinions.

Their philosophy is they want to be the best in the sand as far as pure duning is concerned. Having 40 years of experience in the offroad industry, they've seen it all and know what works and what doesn't. They are out there driving their cars all the time, pushing them to the limit and looking for ways to improve what they sell. I think it's the overall package, suspension geometry, airbags, ride height, weight distribution and tires that make them handle so well. Their attention to detail is at the top of the list.

2nd thing is customer service. They will deliver when promised. The after sale service is top notch too. If they find a problem on another car, they will call you, have you look for any signs of something similar going on and take care of the issue. Their number one referral source for their cars is their existing customer base. Friends of owners get to see what these cars can do and have to have one themselves. It's the customer service that keeps bringing them back.

And finally, once you own one, you become one of the extended Funco family. Being that there are so many out in the dunes, should you break something and find yourself looking for a part, the chance of finding someone with what you need is very good. Grant will set you up with a list of parts that you should keep on hand just in case and most owners I know keep an extensive list of spares on hand for themselves or to help out another family memeber in need.

You said it for your self; that many people can't be wrong. I believe the Funco to be the best duning car on the market. I also believe the SCU to be the best Sand car on the market. Either way you can't go wrong.

Hey Funco guys; i'll be out at Dumont for New Years. Maybe we can hook up and go for a ride. Who is all going?

There are several factors.

1. It's a "cab forward" design, so the passenger weight (a large part of any buggy) and a good portion of the buggy weight is on the front end, it stays planted more than most cars (can't turn if the front tires are up in the air or really light).

2. Flat profile rear tires help the rear slide around a lot easier than round profile tires.

3. High hp low center of gravity engine helps in the rear, so the Subaru powerplant is popular.

4. Airbags are much easier to tune to one's passenger load and driving style than coil springs, so a lot of coil spring suspended cars are not tuned nearly as well, simply because of the hassle. A simple push of the button on a Funco with an onboard compressor retunes the airbag pressure.

You could get the Hustler chassis. It looks Like Everybody Else's Car but retains the handling of a Funco.

i have never forgotten the demo ride grant took me on in the 2 seater and the big 5. i just wish i could build one, but money is the issue.

Socald, you've said it pretty good, those are the biggies. The only thing I'd add is the steering geometry is key also. There's a lot of secret sauce in the front end. That's why when you first drive one you'll feel like you're in a BMW. Their cars just turn, responding immediately to the driver input. As you learn the capabilities of the car it becomes a go-kart affair. Unique, like no other.
