I'm thinkin' bout installing a trans cooler with pump and maybe a filter on my mid-engine car.

Last time I had it torn down it was cooked. Too much heat.
I know it's cuz the way we drive, but O'well. lol

Does anyone have pics of their set-up?
Where did you get the cooler and pump?

Thanks,
R-

Sorry no pics but I mounted the pump and cooler under rear seat lower than the trans. got the cooler from earls and pump from tranworks. Make sure your case is tapped for the lines and you will need some type of breather also !.

Still looking for ideas.

Might be a little bit more expensive but I use a PWR radiator that has a built in oil cooler. My tranny pumps it through that and gets cooled but the fans.. Works great! My old car, I had a S4 tranny and it was HOT after a fast dune run. Now it stays cool

There are a ton of coolers out there, as you may already know, if you have some were to mount a plate cooler the will be exposed to fresh air use that otherwise use a fan and shroud style, with a temp gause and a switch(I could never trust a thermostat). Kartek and McKenzies carry a few different style. With the amount of billet clamps out there you should be able to mount something with out damaging the powder coat.

A little update

The setup I have was working fine for most of the season .... untill I duned in the hard / tight stuff and spewed tranny fluid over the rear of everything on one ride !. So back to the drawing board !.... I'll be taking the tranny to my builder and will do some ports for the breather and pump output line to the critical areas of the trans.

After a full season I got my 2d back from Transworks in El Cajon and it was in perfect condition !! SWEET. A little tapping in the case for a breather above the R & P and I hope I'm good to go !!. Only time will tell ( this weekend ) See ya all out there !.

I agree it works well.

I used a twin fan SETRAB cooler and Howe trans pump on my Albins. You can see the trans pump in the lower left of the photo, and the cooler is under the rear scoop in between the exhaust.

I'd be curious also ^^^^. I saw a Pep Boy's heat gauge ( thermomomopmeter) for about 20$ is that a waste of time ??? $$ . Albins or Fortin ( then I woke up ) LOL !!

"I saw a Pep Boy's heat gauge ( thermomomopmeter) for about 20$ is that a waste of time ???"
Yes, that is a wast of time & $.
The proper way to track thermal activity with a pump system is at the pont of oil discharge from gearbox and another at oil inlet to gearbox.
If there is no pump and cooler than any thermo sensor you are adding should be placed in the differential location for a proper gearbox temp. reading.
(Goodmorning) LOL !!

Im kinda confused ^^. The oil > goes into the gearbox ( front of trans) doesnt have a discharge does it ?? except to flow through the ports back to the R & P (rear) and to the pump suction port ( outlet / sump ) of the trans ? .
