Quick question. When you shoot B&W, do you change to B&W in the camera, or do you convert them after you download?
Also wondering if you have ever shot with any of the 16-28mm range lenses? Before I went digi with my Rebel XTI, I was shooting 35mm and loved my 28-80 lens. I did a lot of shooting at 28. I am really wanting a lens for my XTI that can get down to a true 28 which is around 16mm for the XTI. Just curious if the 16 on the digi starts givin a fisheye or if it is still fairly straight.

Nice pix as usual Al.
Anyone know if they caught the idiot on Sunday night with the black 4 seater that blasted down & out of the drags when the cops all swarmed in?
I don't think they were after him, but he sure didn't want to be near them when they rolled in. Looked like one cop actually drew his pistol.

So.....does that mean the B&W is your trade secret or you don't know the answer to the question regarding the lens? I'm just curious if you do change the color after taking the pic if you notice any difference in quality? I haven't done any color changing afterwards, If I think I might want B&W, or am not sure which way I'm going to want it, I shoot the frame both ways with the camera.

Yeah, I know how to switch my camera over, and I have Photochop. I just have never used Photochop to convert it. I have heard that converting the image instead of shooting it in B&W will decrease quality, just wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in the two methods.

WOOO dude.... Never intended to offend. Didn't even know you sold your desert pics. What's your website? I don't know any of the people or rails in the pics on this thread, but would be interested in seeing the rest of your work. I have more photos framed on my walls than sketches, drawings, or paintings because that's what I like. I am always looking for more. My mom and dad have a framing business so I usually get good deals on frames cuz they use my stuff to try new frames, mats, etc and use them for demos. Let me know if you have a site that I can browse, you do awesome work!

In general, it is always best to do any conversions outside the camera. In camera conversions are simply taken what you would normally get and processing it with a preset function that is often "destructive" in one way or another. Take the pic in standard mode with raw or highest res format then do your own thing with it with whatever software afterwards so you can control what you get/want.

His camera equipment aint cheap. Some just dont realize the maintainance that might be required yearly on the lenses and camera bodies if they have to be cleaned out.can add up quickly with multiple stuff while trying to provide a service for people then post samples only to have people click and save the pic vs buying a copy(even thought the res is low vs an original which will look even better) while Al is trying to make a few extra bucks.
I only met alex once on the summer night rides and i learned a couple tips from him that have helped me out also and like said he is a cool dude.

Thanks for the info twvette. To you others thanks for postin up that bigal is a good guy, I have to say i got a pretty bad impression from his post. I don't make it out to Glamis very often so I had no idea he ever had a booth setup on Vendor row. Next time I'm out there, I hope I can find him cuz it'd be really awesome to score some pics of me cruisin in the sand, and I'd definitely be willin to pay for something like that.

My post had nothing to with how great of guy he is, how wonderful his pictures are, how expensive his lenses are, or how many old women he walks across the street. The fact of the matter is he totally slammed a respectful person who was asking for some advice. I have been to his booth, didn't know that was him until this thread, but I'm glad I know now so I can keep on walking. The guy even apologized and BIGAL still went after him........yeah great guy, you wonder why nobody buys your stuff, its a direction reflection or your personality.
