This weekend was the first time out on the 450, and I must say I was impressed. I've been riding a Honda 400ex (punch out to a 440) and I definatley like the 450 better. Being the new bike on the block a few people wanted to ride it and everyone seemed to like it allot. To me, it is a great duner. It reved much faster and seemed lighter than the 400ex. The suspension was great (I'm at 200 lbs) and it worked better than the 400ex suspension.

The first day was stock, with stock tires. 2nd day took the baffle out and the air filter lid off. Started putting in the dynajet kit, but the largest jet in the kit was 150, and the stock jet was a 158? So I didn't install it. Anyone know the scoop on this one? The bike ran stronger with the baffle out and the lid off of it. It had a little popping so some jetting is needed.

Decided not to go to paddles, the quad is way too much fun sliding to add paddles to it. The only time I missed them was racing up the hills, but it took even the steep part of China Wall with no problem. This is no Banshee killer in a drag race, but through the dunes it will be hard to keep up with.

If the 450 is any indication of where quads are heading - I'm a happy guy!

Dyno jet numbers are usually lower and numbered differently than the stock mikuni jets. The Dynojet 150 is equivalent to probably a 170 mikuni.
40 PSI
Put the dynojet main in or the bike will be running very lean with the baffle out and the lid off. In fact, these bikes are lean from the factory and I would suggest even a 168main for those running stock YFZ's at Glamis.

A YFZ with the baffle and lid off will trash a piped and jetted Banshee up Olds (all day long). Get paddles!!!

I'll check again, but I compared the two and the stock one looked to be slightly larger than the dynajet.

Raptor727 - I agree, and was surprised that all the jets in the kit were small.

Hey Chef, which jet did you end up putting in yours?

Here are some other posts:

for the cam mod: http://www.yfzcentral.com/cammod.htm

On jetting:
"since the graph DROPPED on the left that means you made it LEANER, your pilot should be 45 and your needle should be on #6 that will put you into 47-48 hp on top. Your main jet is too lean you should run 175 main jet and you should hit 48-49 hp maybe 50"

-or-

"No wonder the other bike runs so much better, 185 main, 48 pilot plus the YZ (NVCQ/GYTR) needle is a much better combo and equates to much more power"

-or-
"the gytr jet kit has the pilot 45 biggest and 168 mainjet biggest, use that for now.
then order some 170,175, 178, 172 mainjets and a 48 pilot.

go to www.eskimo.com/~daddog/jetting/index.htm and read those four posts and you can have this thing jetted in one hour.

if you can get the GYTR JET NEEDLE put it on 5 first then 4 if it is too rich."

-or- and on the jet number thing:

"Dynojet uses their own jets in their kits though, they measure by flow and not by size. I just like to keep things simple I run keihin jets, they have a star on them near then number "

i doubt that
40 PSI
It isn't even disputable. Proven both on the hill and through simple math. The YFZ weighs a legit 350lbs so the Banshee gives up almost 50lbs in weight. Power wise on the same dyno on the same day the YFZ puts down around 5-7rwhp more.

I am more than willing to show how true this is this coming Saturday at Olds around 11am as we have two 04' Shee's with Toomeys, intakes and jetting and one YFZ with the baffle out and the lid off. It has a 168main, 45 pilot and a whopping $8.00 in upgrades wink.gif. White/Red YFZ parked next to my Silver with Blue Tribal Flamed Raptor.

Get em RedandBlack!
40 PSI
The bike ran very very well, but I will be the first to admit there were more bikes at the Hill that were fast then I had ever seen before on Halloween weekend. I would say there were 10 4-Strokes faster and a boat load of Banshee's. It did beat most every stock swing arm Banshee I tried to run with the exception of three that were very fast. It was a Zoo at Olds.

This bike is definitely faster up Olds as compared to a piped and jetted Banshee. The problem with Banshee's is you never know what you are lining up with as they all look and sound the same with Toomeys/Fattys or whatever else! smile.gif
