Well, all in all it was a good week, we left Dec. 27 and just got back about 2 hours ago. But, I had quite a few firsts out this time.

For starters, i think it was the second day we were there, our group went out for a ride over to Test hill and the vendors and over back to camp. On the way back we passed a guy standing in a hole waving to us. I was in the rail with my brother bringing up the back of the pack. Anyway, the whole gourp passs this guy thinking he was going and doin his business, but i noticed that he had was going to the bathroom. So i told my brother to stop and we went and helped the guy. Some how, he drove his quad into a witches eye, he didnt go over a razor and into, just drove straight into it. He was an older guy, probably in his 70's. He was riding a brand new Honda 450 and had on one of those old school open face helmets. At first i thought he was mentally challenged by the way he was talking, but he was just sort of shakin up i guess. anyway, he was out by himself and could hardly move. i pulled his quad out of the whole and my buddy helped the guy out of the whole, we rode with him all the way back to his camp. when we got there, his wife and daughter were sitting outside of their trailer. they told us he has parkinsons disease and has alot of trouble getting around, why he was out alone... i dont know. then they tell us that they didnt even know he left! i couldnt believe it! so if it werent for us stopping, who knows what would of happened to man. couldve been bad.

lets see, what was the next thing that happened. oh yeah, the kid on the 20k+ streetbike powered banshee. we had all just got back from a ride and were sitting outside taking a break. we heard a loud bike and looked over to see what it was and saw this guy haulin down the dirt road next to Ogilby road. he hit one of the little bumps and started going end over end. we all took off over there and the bike was totaled and the kid was lying on the ground. he had on no helmet no chest protector, and no boots, but slippers. lucky for the kid, one of the guys in our camp is an EMT. Another guy from our camp called 911 and had an ambulance on the way. The kid was very lucky, he wasnt hurt at all from what we could tell he ws up and walking after a few minutes. the bike on the other hand was in bad shape, bent swing arm, bent and cracked exhaust, the radiator was in a taco, bent axle and much much more. as far as i know the kid was ok. oh, and the motor in the bike was a gsxr 600 i think.

the same night as the the kid wreckin on a banshee, we had a guy in a ford diesel truck fly into our camp. he looked like a white power guy with a shaved head and all tattooed up, and boy was he pissed off. he came stormin in and asked if any of us have seen a green dodge (which my dad drives one and so does our buddy Matt). he said someone ran his 19 year old daughter off the road, punched her in the face, took there quad keys, and tried to take his daughter with him. im not sure if the guy tried to take his daughters truck and trailer too, or if the guy that punched his daught drove a truck and trailer. the guy had a gun behind his back too, locked and loaded, and he didnt seem like he would hesitate to squeeze off a few rounds. after the guy left, we called the cops to let them know. and when we flagged down a cop, he said he had already pulled the guy over for speeding, but didnt get a license plate #, ID, or anything. his fellow cops gave him a talkin about that im sure. that was the end of that, dunno if the guy got his revenge or whatever he was seeking or not.

and last but not least, my friend Mike aka Whitie. He went out for a ride in there Rhino and when they came back, 20 feet from camp, he tipped the rhino over. he was by himself in the rhino luckily but, he made a right turn a alot of weight was on the left side. so when he tipped, he didnt remember the #1 rule to not put your arm out. his arm got broke very badly. it looked like he had 2 elbows. his parents took him to the hospital in yuma right away, they did surgery on his arm that night. they said he almost lost the arm. blood was cut off from the break, and his arm started dieing. he is still in the hospital right know. they are supposed to do a skin graft to close up his arm. so hopefully he will be ok. while his parents were waiting in the ER, they saw the guy on the banshee that wrecked, and his brother had broken his collar bone. sounds like that family had a bad weekend.

well, other than these things the week was awesome. got in some great riding and had some good times with friends. cant wait till next time. Happy New Year everyone!

I actually met the guy who had the incedent with his quad being stolen and his daughter assaulted. He said he was camped in ogilby and has never had anything like that happen before. He was a really nice guy and that was really scary for anyone who has kids. I hope they get that situation sorted out.

Sorry to hear about your buddy in the rhino, we just added the doors and harnesses and wow what a difference they made. Much safer feel to the rhino.

Did he come flying into your camp too? He seemed like he would be an ok guy, just at the time, he was lit and pretty scarry. I personally didnt see the gun, but my bro's girlfriend said she saw it.

They have little doors on the rhino, but stock belts. Hopefully he will take more care when he drives now and especially when he has a passenger.

I actually met him when I was dumping at sidewinder, really nice fellow helped me line up the release without asking. Adding the harneses was the best 200.00 I ever spent, hope you buddy makes a quick recovery.

Disgusting what is happening these days in the dunes.

wow. there was a guy in our friends camp in GOrdons this past weekend that rolled his Rhino too. His hand was sideways when the top bar crushed it. Apparently it broke ALOT of bones in his hand and he almost lost a finger.

As for Gordons, it was the first time our group had ever been there. I have been going to Glamis since 1992 and in all that time I have had maybe 3 run-ins with cops. I am a very respectful camper. This weekend alone we had 5 different instances with Leo's. 2 times they accused people in our camp of driving erratically (but didnt see anything so they couldnt give any tickets) , gave a guy a ticket for not having a whip on his F350 IN THE CAMP AREA, a firework infraction (one roman candle), and they gave another guy a ticket for having what appeared to be a puddle under his grey tank....no drips, no wetness......just what appeared to be the remnents of a puddle.

With all the bad stuff happening I can see the need for lots of cops. But c'mon, it was ridiculous. Our group pretty much all said they wont be going back to Gordons.

We camped at Buttercup and had the worst trip I've ever had with the LEO's. Our camp is a very law abiding group of folks but man they were searching for anything to write a ticket. Does anybody know if there were more LEO's than normal or if they had an informal zero tolerance rule for new years? It wasn't near as bad at Thanksgiving.

Well... we've been crying for more enforcement...

We've been wanting to get rid of the "bad" element for some time now... but now that the enforcement is there, people are complaining... Sounds like a case of the NIMBY's

My friend got a ticket in camp this weekend for lighting a fire with some gasoline... it was a small pit, with no more gas than necessary, and about a 2 foot trail to light it. When the officers were there, they could look for people with warrants, people without passes, litterers, ETC... everything we've been wanting to be enforced.

Yeah, its a pain to have them come in and check us... but if we want more security, we have to give up liberty. It would be nice if they let the good guys go, and bring the bad guys down, but thats not gonna be the game.

same thing with my buddy in the rhino, the blood was cut off from the break and his arm was dying, he almost lost it. they are supposed to have a plastic surgeon come in and close up his arm here soon.

sounds like you had the same crazy things happen as we did this time out. pretty ridiculous what cops do these days. my mom wrecked and rolled her quad and the whip broke, a cop pulled her over and still wanted to give her a ticket for no flag. my dad finally got the cop to understand that she had just wrecked and that we were on our way to the vendors to get a new flag.

i know, thanksgiving wasnt bad at all. there seemed like there was twice maybe three times as many cops this time out.

yes we want more cops out there, but i mean come on, theres a limit somewhere to what cops can give tickets for.

I agree... for example... the rule about not burning gasoline in the dunes... the spirit of the law would be for those jackasses digging trenches at the hill... but some officers will choose to enforce it on the guy that was lighting his campfire and used the gas reasonably.

Its a pain in the ass... and a double edged sword.

Never been to the Dunes on a BIG weekend...for a good reason moof.gif

that was great og you to have helped out the old man out of the dunes and to have taken him back to his camp. I hope they offered you a cold one. beer.gif
cjs951
no cold one offered just a thanks and sent us on our way

We were camped in Buttercup for 5 days, not a single conversation with a LEO. Did see way more Border Patrol than normal, other than that it seems mellow for us?
