I think an 002 can handle around 200-220 max
an 091 225+ I know some guys running 350HP behind a 091 but they are replacing trannies every season and some that have 300Hp and never had a problem.

The 002 with all the best parts and a weddle ring and pinion should be about 200 to 250 hp this depends on the way you drive the tire size and the weight of the car.The 091 i would tell you not more than 300 hp but for the money of the 002 parts i would sugest that any body looking for a 002 like that to go with the 091 insted its only a few hundred more and much better.

The V6 puts down 326 Lbft Tq. a bit over the recommended but at 4600 rpm (max TQ) the car is already moving pretty good. Should you attempt it ... anything is possible but that's really for you to decide. Personally If you have the $$$ I would a least get a Mendi E trans. if you go 091 don't do anything harsh, roll into you power and it should last you for a season.

PM or call Rick and he can answer that. I think the going rate on a built 091 is around 3,500 depending on the gears you use. I had Rick rebuild my trans about 2yrs ago and it cost me $1,500. I had him install the Klingberg R&P, and put in a closer 3rd and 4th gear. The Klingberg R&P is a bit pricy but I think it's worth it especially if your going to put a lot of torque to it.

So what is the weak link in these trannys? Is it the R & P or the 1-4 gears.
Also what do you think about the megasand trannys (E model)? would it be a viable option for up to 350-400hp.

I believe the case is the weak point on the VW trannies along with the ring and pinion. The gear stacks seem very strong.
As for the Megasand, there are a number of members here that are using them with good results. I wanted to use one a couple years back but could never get in touch with "Omar" who is apparently the only person that would sell them.
