Does anyone know what kind of athourity the Border Patrol has in the Dunes?
Are they there to protect the Border or act as a "LEO" Branch of the BLM???

I guess they could be either, actually. When extra law enforcement help is called in to work busy weekends at the ISDRA, the law enforcement officers come from many different agencies such as Border Patrol, US Department of Forestry, you name it.

As far as I know, as a Federal Law Enforcer, they can do just about anything.

This brings up a good point. >:< My cousin got a pretty nasty little gash on his leg saturday morning. My brother took him over to the rescue station (at buttercup) and tried to get some opinions on whether or not it needed stitches. Seems the rescue team blew him off so they could work on the border patrol buggy. I can understand wanting to get the buggy going to do their job but that wasn't the case. My cousin ended up going to yuma and getting about 10 stitches. When they got back to camp we went for a ride and ended up at the hill. Guess who was there!! The border patrol rescue buggy. What were they doing? Racing up and down the hill. Looks like they were having a grand ol' time PLAYING!!
I've never seen the border patrol with a rescue buggy but it had a stretcher and other things on it. I have no problem with them having a buggy. They need it. But when somebody needs advice on a wound they blow them off so they can get their toy going.
On a better note, the rangers out there were very cool and laid back. Never checked us for passes. There were little kids riding around everywhere and they didn't go to check for the safety certification. Overall, it was a great weekend..
dunernr, I looked for you but there were so many damn camps around us. I didn't know where to start. :dis:

Sure ya did! WE were just west of the "Track" about 300 yards south of the Trees, last camp before the boarder rode.

Dunernr-
Our main objective out there is to prevent illegal entry into the US. Second is drug apprehention. But if we see infractions we can act on them also.
Rubberneck-
As far as your cousin I feel bad because those guys are making us all look bad. Human safety is far more important than any machine. Next time you have a problem with a Agent ask for his "STAR" number (ID) and report it to a supervisor. I guarantee results will happen.

Bp thanks for the info... I was just wondering why there are so many that just sit in Comp Valley and watch people climb the hill.
Another question for you, how far can you(BP) go into mexico? They put up a bunch of new boarder markers out there and I seen the BP Rail at least a 1/4 mile into Mexico cruzing around.
Hey another one, whats up with the White Flags with "AGUA" at the bottom of the poles every 100 feet or so along the US side of the border.

Thanks for the tip. It really wasn't a big deal. Just a disappointment. I know not all of the border patrol is this way. I won't stereotype since I hate when it's done to me. They weren't hassling anybody so it's not a big issue.
dunernr, I saw those poles too. Somebody ripped on down and it was laying out in the middle of the road.
Was that you? Did you see the BP plane flying pretty low over the drags at Gordons saturday? Looked like they were racing.

They are just bored! There are other ways we have of knowing if people are trying to enter without us "seeing" them. So they are just probably kicking back wishing they could enjoy a beer like you are.
Technically NO we can't enter Mexico but with the border not really "defined" by a fence or wall it is bound to happen. Plus bringing guns to Mexico is a big NO NO!
Now for the one that WE hate.... The AGUA poles are to help the Illegals that need water (understandable) but we are not allowed to really keep an eye out there and apprehend them when they come for water. The compasionate ones claim Entrapment and it isn't fair. I have my opinions about them and they aren't favorable to the compassionate people.
In my eyes it should be like this.... Welcome to the United States, what is your citizenship please... (enter country here) National? You have no papers allowing you to enter the United States legally? NO.. Please turn around I would like to offer you a nice new pair of bracelets to wear for your safety as well as mine...P.S. enjoy your AGUA.

No, I didn't knock down any poles... I did dtop and see what kind of water they were giving away, 1 gallon jugs of purifed clean drinking water... How nice, almost took some for myself but the ASA side of my brain side nope don't do it.
Yeah, I was over at Gordons saturday afternoon when the plane was flying about 100 feet off the ground buzing the drags... Pretty cool!

How come I never get to see the good stuff?
My buddy flies for El Centro BP and I have yet to see the buggy in person. I was in the desert the weekend of the fires and saw the Marines (helo) make a low pass over the drags at Gordons. They were no more than 100 feet off the ground it seemed. Pretty cool but the turn he made as he approached scared the hell out of me. If he lost it he would have took out the whole drags without a doubt .....
Now the water is a good tip for the radiator guys in your buggies!!

Free clean purified H2O.... That'll piss them off

Well congrats to the BP. They have a hell of a job. Fortunately, they have such great support from every civil rights activist. I will gladly sit in line on Hwy 86 on the way home, if it prevents one dirt bag from sneaking into this country. I say screw them all.

Law enforcement in this country gets more difficult everyday. It seems the criminials are continuing to receive more and more "rights".
On the other hand.....any law enforcement officer (for any agency), firefighter, or agency EMS worker is a PUBLIC SERVANT. No matter what happens you work for the people you are contacting (except the "runners"

). Whether apprehending a criminal or providing medical care, the subject should receive the highest amount of customer service possible.
Give em a brake, and hopefully they will make us proud. If not, complain to the district office!
Ride On!

This subject made for a very lively Desert Advisory Council meeting once, as I recall. Both sides are very passionate, that's for sure.
And we're all entitled to our own strong opinions about the subject and we're certainly all welcome to talk about them. I've had my mind changed lots of times by reading opposing views.
BUT what cannot be allowed is any suggestion that another human being, no matter who or what we may think they are, deserves to be shot is beyond the fine lines drawn here. So the post has been edited and an email has been sent.
It's a holiday week with friends and family all around us and it's that Glamis time of year. Take a deep breath, imagine your toes in that glorious, cool sand, and keep it within the limits.

WOW...Shoot them all??? not cool.
I would like to invite anyone that wants to see what it is like on a first hand experience to go to your local law enforcement office and tell them you want to ride along for the day.
Alot of bad stuff goes on, but just the same alot of good happens because we are out there. In our position there are times when we have to be compassionate for someone who we really could care less about. But the fact of the matter is that THEY are HUMAN just like you and me. A life lost is a shame. The day I pull the trigger on a Innocent life is the day I hang up the cuffs and goto jail.
Maybe some of the ruthless ones on here need a reality check and come out for the day then base your opinion on that.

A couple of years ago, a friend of a friend got me a ride along at the Century station in Lynwood, I rode with 2 officers and what a eye opener. I would not want to have to put up with the s*** that these 2 guys went through during the evening. One bad guy that they arrested for rape spit on one of the officers and kicked him in the leg and ran away, later after they caught him, he had the nerve to complain that the officers beat him for no good reason. I ended up going to court as a witness for the officers.
Later I got another ride along in East Los Angeles, just as bad.
After doing the ride along, I really respect these men and women that do this job. One of the officers said that he was in the sanitation business. I asked again and he said that he cleaned up the streets for decent people.

You know maybe I kind of started this with the spiking the water joke. Poor in taste though it might have been, it was only a joke.
I am the last person who would ever be called a bleeding heart liberal but shooting people simply for coming across the border illegally isn't right.

Been on many ride alongs in PHX area for serving warrents to Crack houses and Operation save the neighborhood..
Seen a 14 year old kid get picked up for dealing.. Dad picks him saying hes gonna kick that boys butt etc..
Seen the kid on the street 2 hours later..
Talk about making it tough on the cops..
Grew up wanting to be a cop - even more so a DEA agent. - Took flying lessons, college, military etc.. after all is said and done - glad I took the other path.
Those guys earn it everyday. as much as I cant stand them on them on certain levels, I feel they are the back bone to our streets.
hope they can keep the trust..

Well, I have said this before but it still applies. 99% of the people are good, hard working individuals just wanting a better life. But it is the 1% that keeps us on edge. So before talking down a LEO please remember we are here for everyones benefit and one day we might make a direct impact on your life for the better.

ISBB- It is very hard getting a pilot position in the BP. Most of ours are retired military and have tons of hours logged. My buddy use to fly around those banner planes in San Diego just to log hours. But first step is you need to be a agent then apply to become a pilot for us. Are you close to 37 years old yet?
