It has been mentioned briefly on other posts. However, Olds hill looks absolutely pathetic! I have no idea how this problem can be dealt wth. It woud seem to be that most of the damage is done by slobs at night, under the cover of darkness. Once again, the people who dune responsibly will get the short end of the stick. It will be just a short time before this hill looks like Comp.
Looks like the same people will be doing the work again! I know most of you who read this are not the perpetrators of this CRIME. I wish I knew how to keep the trash out of the sand box.

Keep the trucks out of the dunes! They bring in the big coolers and the wood. I feel that the desert is for OFF-ROAD vehicles. Leave your truck at camp! I could care less how many chrome shocks you have or how loud it can be.
Wanna impress me- Drive into a deep soft bowl and get back out!

I agree BIG time, wife and I on the poker run on Saturday (had a blast!), The flow of TRUCK traffic was unbelievable heading towards Olds. By 11 am the place was pretty busy with the 'small' vehicles. As we left for the next checkpoint we had to head into the dunes off the main road to avoid being run down.
Didn't I see a picture of a sign from another dune park, something to the effect of 'OHV's only'?

Oh my, not this tired old argument again.
Skateboards versus rollerblades.
Skis versus snowboards.
Boats versus jetskis.
Idiots are idiots, whether they're on two, three or four wheels, in trucks, on quads or even just walking.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you're going to say... they can bring more destructive tools if they're in trucks.
But we have trucks in camp and we don't do those destructive things.
It still comes down to choice.
When we blame the type of vehicle and not the idiot behind the wheel, we give the idiots a crutch.
And when we eliminate an entire duner-type because we can't (or won't) control the idiots, where will it end?

That's the way it should be " OHV's only" !. Get rid of the "problem" not the "solution" !-, The honest , fun lovin duner doesn't want to see this" BS "going on !. This is not the dune mantre most of us know and luv !. Maybe there is more to this than I can see?. ( or is that sea! ?) a SEA of idiots that dont have a clue? , or a SEA of dune lovers that can SEE the idiots ruining our sport !.

Wow Vicki, that is twice in the past couple weeks that we have agreed on something. That must be a record.
My additional two cents...
I don't want street legal (i.e. trucks, 4x4s, etc.) vehicles banned on the dunes. This weekend I blew up the engine in my rail. I was still able to go watch the drags thanks to a friend loaning me her 4x4. Yes, we had a whip on it, and no we didn't litter. In fact, I picked up other peoples trash while we were there. If trucks were banned I would have been stuck in camp all weekend.
For those of you that say the trucks should not be allowed... think about that for a minute. The BLM would much rather close any and all potential party spots before trying to ban trucks. That could eventually spell big trouble. And I GUARANTEE the BLM will implement an alcohol ban long before even thinking about a truck ban.
Would an alcohol ban work? Maybe. I don't know. But it sucks for those of us that never cause a problem and like to have the occasional beer break.
So the problem comes back to idiots.
How do WE, the average duners, cure this problem without breaking the law and without putting ourselves and our families in danger when confronting these idiots?
I sure would like to have the old Glamis back, where you go to Comp or Olds to watch people race, not watch people fight.
So instead of saying "Ban the trucks!" How about we put our minds together and try to come up with something, ANYTHING, that WE can do either on our own or as advice to the BLM so that we can help cure the problem without shooting ourselves in the collective foot.
And even though I don't have the answer right now, I intend to think on it a lot and hopefully come up with something. I hope you all do as well. We need to think on a large scale, not the "talking to one group of punks at a time" thing that has been tried a million times.
Ideas???
banning trucks won't do a damn thing... now the idiots will do this damage at the camps, right?? it's the idiots' fault not their vehicles. I'll be damned if I'm going to accept a ban when I go to the hill at night in my truck and I don't even drink over there or God forbid leave trash.

i think the punk truck kids do bring alot of the trash and probs, but banning trucks is not the answer! it is the "idiots" themselfs that are the prob!!!!maybe we need more enforcment. i know thats sad to say, but whats the alt??it won't be long before they close the whole thing down!! >:< somebody stole the fee pay machine on wash road thurs night!! this is the sheet thats blowing it for all the good peeps!!!we all need to keep an eye on each other.if you see a dumb a$$ littering...speak up!!

So they have passes? They have whips? Should they be bringing large amounts of firewood? How 'bout limit the amount of beer per person coming in by truck to Olds. Can counts in, Can counts out?
I don't have a rail and don't have a way to bring my 5 yr old Daughter to Olds but in my truck. We need to come up with an answer.

This is probably the thing that weighs most heavily on me. It's bad enough that they're destroying something beautiful but I'm certain many of them are doing it on MY $90!
A pinch point would do so much and checking for passes is just one of them, not to mention large drums of gas, six people in the back of a truck with a keg, etc. etc.
Where were the pinch points?

I drive a rail. I was almost hit three times by these want too be race trucks. Oh and the fools that think it's cool to race through your camp, bikes, rails and the trucks.
It is not the trucks or any one type of ride. It's the fool that's driveing and has no respect for others.
That is where the problem lies is respect for others. They don't have the guts to go to the dunes so they have to race through the camps.
Going to Boardmoville we got blasted going and comeing because these fools wouldn't slow down.
People should know there is a time and place to haul but.
We seen a maybe 6 year old kid almost get flattened by a fool in a Dodge Durango near our camp on Sat.
My point is people have no respect for anyone else and they feel they can do what they want at Glamis. these fools are the ones that ruin it for the rest of us.

It's funny to me how no one see's the deep down ingredient to all of these problems. You say can's, punk kids, bottles are the problem, well what is that all caused by? Alcohol. If they did a alcohol ban half of that stuff would not go on. Kids wouldn't go out there because now they get busted for drinking and you wouldn't have drunk a$$'s dropping beer cans and bottles everywhere, do you think half of those fires and things are started by sober people? Stop the alcohol and you'll stop half of the problems. How bout we try it just for 1 season and see what happens? Message to all the idiots...No brains, no headaches.

I don't think an alcohal ban is the solution. Half the punks out there causing this destruction arne't even old enough to drink anyway. It's already against the law for them to drink, posses, and then drive under the influence. So how would a ban work? They break the law anyway. These kids just go out to party and thats it. They weren't raised in the dunes like the rest of us who grew up learning to respect the desert. Making more and more laws isn't always the solution.
This is only going to hurt other people like myself who enjoy having a beer after a long ride.
And as far as the trucks go, I ride a YZ 250, so I can't ride out to the hill at night. So I usually take my wife out in the truck.
Jason
People that leave trash dont like to ride with me because they end up going for a nice nature walk through the dunes. They end up picking it up instead of leaving it.

I was at Olds Saturday and Sunday last weekend. Saturday was fine for trash. Sunday however there was a ton of carp every where and 3 fires still burning. Glad to report that the fires were just Tree wood and not pallets with nails. It was sad to see such a nice morning with just smoke, trash and leftover craps from trucks bringing it it.
Maybe we trash containers out there would work???who knows bring it in pack it out and all is solved....

I believe more enforcement of picking up your trash is the only way its really going to stop. I know a nice size fine would make a few people think twice. As far as the trucks go, it's not just them responcesable for the trash. Had a few dirtbike guys in my camp this year that had their trash all over the place. It about came to a fight on sunday, but instead we band them from ever camping with us again, and just picked up the trash ourselves,

and used our trucks to take it to the dumpster.
As far as a alcohol band goes, I highly doubt that would work. Being part of the younger crowd I know they would just as well take drugs instead to get their high, if they arn't already.
Just need more rangers writing citations for trash I guess. Some people just have no damn respect.
