Was wondering if anybody can possible help/show me how to install the twist throttle on the YFZ450. I just don't trust myself installing it and need some help. I live in Rancho, but the bike is in Norco. I can bring the bike and some beer (that is always motivating)...let me know

THanks,

Andy

Andy its very simple, when you get your t-throttle kit, follow the 2 wires going thru the thumb throttle you will have to unplug that connector and put the looped connector in place under the hood/nose. once then, follow the cable to the carb. you will have to remove the seat right side plastic. if its an 06 or never, have to unbolt the rear brake reservior, to be able to remove the side cover of the carb (3 6mm allen head bolts)

a 10 mm wrench to loosen the pinch on the carb once then the wire will loop out of the slot on the carb.
then reinstall all the backwards. icon_wink.gif

^^^^^^ think that motor is broke!

did you already buy one?
WaPaWeKkA
yes

I love my twist throttle. It was pretty easy to install. Make sure that your cable isn't stretched at all when you turn left or right because it'll yank on the throttle.
WaPaWeKkA
yea, I'm going to give it a try tonight. If I break it, that just means I can blame each and every one of you! j/k

Andy

should have tried the dual gassier throttle. easy to hook up and you can have both twist and thumb

just like your owner's manual, work on at your own risk laughing.gif Well I will most likely be at milestone MX park wendsday night (not riding, buddy system for my friend on 2 wheels) If you want to bring your ride and twist throttle there, ill be glad to put it on for you free of charge.

great for people who share quads and people dont like twist. or if you like thumb but it get so sore you can just switch over for a few and give it a rest. heard good things about them and i will be getting one in red here soon.

oh yeah and you can use the stock cable icon_biggrin.gif

It is very important to re-grease the muffler bearing while you at it.

And Holy shit is this the coolest or what I have to get 1.

I don't know how you guys can ride a quad with a twist throttle?

when you guys are flying through the whoops how do you guys hold on for life but also not give more throttle causing the bike to flip back and eat it hard! (this is all from past experience)
Rusty
HERE is a link to another forum with a thread about the dual gasser throttle

get up on those bars and toes on the pegs click up a higher gear to where you have the motor in low rpms but still traveling at a higher rate of speed. when in doubt or in trouble pin it! and if you cant control the throttle, if you know how to not panic and grab the clutch lever.. only reason why i would switch to a thumb again is for tight turns on the mx track, hard to twist the throttle on right hand turns.

I can barely ride with a thumb throttle. My thumb starts to ache after a while. I've been using a twist throttle since I can remember. I asked them to put one on when I bought the bike but they refused. Don't ask me why. They sell them but they won't install them, seems stupid to me!

milestone is closed tonight so no can do on the throttle. ...
GWTT
well? get it installed?

Ran out of time before the last trip. I should have one it because my thumb was killing me at the end of rides. I'll get it done before President's Weekend.

I can tell you I put a twist on my wife's quad on her request. Well after 2 injury's from using it I will be getting the dual or putting back the thumb unit.

Check out the end of this video showing her wipeout due to the twist unit.

I think she caught a rutt from that dang blue funco... what a jerk tongue.gif I agree with you on the thumb throttle, for show boating wheelies. If I go back to a thumb it will be at the mx track, its almost impossible to twist the throttle in a tight right turn.

Alright. I did it tonight and thought it went pretty well. I hooked it all up and fired it up and it ran great. Twist Trottle worked great. I pushed it out of the garage and then went to ride it into the backyard. When I let out the clutch it just died every single time. I put it in neutral and gave it a little gas and it would stall. I would start it up and if I gave it a lot of gas it would rev fine. I don't understand. The only way I can get it to go is if I completely drop the clutch. What could be wrong? While cleaning up I found a gold circular metal piece. Where did that come from? Also, connecting it to the carb. It looked like it would fit in two holes, I put it in the first one. Is that right?

HELP!!

like a woman... it fit in the first hole ok laughing.gif the second hole is for the dirtbike's twist throttle. it uses dual cables. did your throttle kit come with a plug for the thumb throttle wiring? looks like a looped connector?
WaPaWeKkA
No, it came with one connector. I saw that the thumb throttle had to connectors. I unplugged one of them and did away with it and the second one I pulled out of the carb and put twist throttle one in.

This is the one I bought. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/control_partno/01-0579/

oh no... please tell me you didnt unplug anything from the carb! plug it back in!!! (hopefully you didnt remove the tps from there) the only electrical item that should be removed it the thumb throttle cable that goes underneath the front hood. under the hood, the kit should have given you a peice that goes in where the thumb throttle wires used to plug into. what that wire is for is when the quad is in gear, and the throttle is stuck it will shut off the motor. which sounds like your problem. all it is a looped wire with terminals to plug back in creating a loop. when the quad is in neutral it will only rev so high (computer controls spark) and you would flood it out.
WaPaWeKkA
No. I didn't unplug anything from the carb. It was just from under the hood. Those two connectors that went into the thumb throttle. The kit I bought didn't come with anything to plug back into there. The only thing I did to the carb was take out the thumb throttle cable and put the twist throttle cable back on. What now?

Updated. My girlfriend says she saw a black little loop on the ground next to the bike. I barely remember seeing it, but I do remember. Is that the connector that is supposed to go in the other ones place? If so, why would that cause the problem I have with it stalling?

yup your girlfriend saved your butt! yes that little looped connector (inside the thumb throttle it breaks an electrical circuit.) if the quads engine control module sees no voltage comming back, it thinks the throttle is stuck wide open thus cutting the spark and stalls out. so that looped connector completes the circuit telling it you dont have a stuck throttle. put that little plug into where the thumb throttle used to go and it should run fine. thumb.gif if you lost it, id call motion pro and tell them it didnt come with it or you could cut the connector from the thumb throttle and connect them together and plug it back in.
WaPaWeKkA
Sweet. It was found. I'll put it in tomorrow.

Andy
WaPaWeKkA
Well I managed to get it on last night. It will go into gear fine and drive fine but when I go WOT in neutral it still shuts itself off. Is it supposed to do that? I haven't done that in gear yet, just in neutral? Normal?

Andy
GWTT
neutral it shuts off, if you crack the throttle from idle to WOT it will do what is called "the bog" thats a whole other topic.. It rides around fine? id make a pass (2nd or 3rd gear on the gas!) up and down the street in gear. your probably experiencing the bog in neutral, if i rev mine from idle to WOT it dies too. its to do with the accelerator pump and jets. it takes alot of time to diagnosis and cure. it happens occasionally on mine but is very rare.
WaPaWeKkA
yea, it was in neutral. I rode it into the backyard just in first gear. I didn't want to make a couple passes down the street because 1. it was late at night and 2. they paddles are still on it. I'm taking it out to Glamis this weekend and we will see how she does. I'm pretty sure it just does it in neutral though.

Thanks GWTT.
