One of the things I see alot of is gas tanks dented by the forks ,

This is completely preventable!!

Make sure your steering stops are doing their job.

Here is an example of a bad tab:

A little bit of persuasion with a 1 lb. sledge hammer ( small sledge)
works well, but be careful to not ding the head of the engine in the process.

I've got that exact same problem on my wife's 70!!! Now the tank is dented pretty bad on one side.

cuzzin eddy
how bout when you bend your frame and it dents the tank

I ended up fixing it with a regular hammer.
I pushed it on it's side but not completely laid it down which exposed the tab really good.
Gave it a few whacks, then I switched sides.

Mine was bent pretty bad so I pounded it back where it was supposed to go. Then I welded a piece of 1/8 steel shaped like the original over the original. Ground the edges. No more problem

We had one that was completly missing... so we had to buy some flat stock and weld it on. Before and after (primed) before paint!

I also took my welder and ran a bead on both side of the tab to give it a little extra steel there.

What'chu talkin' bout Willis? laughing.gif

Chris had a lot to do with the welds... I make it look like the welder shat all over the place! Laying a bead is a great idea like Stugots is talking about!
