I have a 07 Yamaha Special editiion rhino model (the blue rhino) and I'm switching over to the yamaha piggyback style shocks that come on the 07 yamaha sport edition rhino (the silver rhino). My question the piggyback sport shocks springs are red and white, I'd like to keep the silver colored springs from my old shocks (to keep the silver color) are they the same springs just different color? Or are the red and white springs different (higher performance?). Thanks for the info to anyone that can help with some answers.

I am fairly certain you cannot take the springs from the old shocks off.. The old shocks are not rebuildable
If you want diff color springs - pull the springs off of your new shocks - send them out to be powdercoated - you can pick ANY COLOR you would like

Yep.... The springs dont come of the SE stock shocks. Get the new ones powdrcoated.

I like to do my very best to give someone the RIGHT info or none at all. You can with the right tools remove the springs from the standard rhino shocks. Now I don't know if they are different spring rates ot lenths then the sport shocks.

Thanks to all for the info,,,I'm going to switch them out this weekend I'm hoping for a big change with the way it rides now.

Okay, since we are giving the WRONG info and you are RIGHT - what is the right tool? Ive been told by 4 different shops you CANNOT switch spring rates on stock shocks. I would LOVE to know the info you have but are NOT sharing...

A spring compressor. compress the spring and remove the c-retainer (looks like a pacman) at the top of the shock.
If I get the chance today at work I'll remove one a take a picture for you.
Like a said I'm not sure if the spring will work on the sports shocks, just said it can be removed.

Yeah you can get them off. I think you can buy stiffer springs for your stock shocks.

well I didn't have time to take the shock apart but did take a picture so you can see the piece you need to remove. ( with the opening shown in the purple area)

yea there was a place selling spring upgrades for stock shocks a while back. You will love the SE resi shocks they are much better than stock. From what I understand I shock is doing revalve/resprings to the se shocks to make them even better I'm going to call them to see what is involved and pricing.

ok, I just called I Shock and for $725 they revalve and respring the front and rear stock SE shocks and he claims HUGE differnce especially if they are on a 4 seater. I'll have to think about it because I can sell these for $500 and easily buy some new/used fox/bilstien/king etc for 1200 and they will be better than the upgraded stockers. However he did say for $315 he would just do the rears and I would notice a big difference then do the fronts later to save cash. we'll see.

That seems a little pricey. They are still stock, and for $725 your 2/3's of the way to bilstiens or AFCO's which would out perform the stockers with revalving anyways. I'd save your money, but thats just me..
