I was lookin at maybe picking one up, does anybody run one? I know a few people are running other nissan turbo v6's, but does any one have any experience with this particular engine, or have any knowledge of it? I'm just looking horsepower numbers or better yet horsepower potential, common mods, and if you can use the stock ecu and wiring harness from the 300zx? Thanks

I ran an 89 vg30det in my car and loved it...good power and used stock computer harness and mass air meter....I had Jim Wolfe tech do the work and then I found one of his rac mechanis to work on my engine...great prices and he was in the east county....San Diego....it put out 350 to the wheels....I know that it is harder now to find those engines...someone that I know was looking for a motor from japan and now you cant even get those years motors...they are moving to the 90's era.....so yes I could now see a problem with parts....that is why I always had a spare engine and some parts.

Actually I am doin a little research here and he said DET, but I am thinking it is a VG30ET, since it is out of a 300zx. I know its a different motor, but I still got the same questions? Also do all the different VG30heads swap around? Thanks

The heads do swap around....my motor was a 300zx turbo....the upgrades were bigger injectors and turbo....and then I swapped the heads with nissan xterra heads....more flow and bigger ports...I feel these motors are the best bang for your buck....you can get close to 500hp out of vq30 pretty easily and its also amazing the hp number out of the nissan sr20 motor.....my .02

Thanks Disturbed thumb.gif

I have a VG30DET. It is a Dual over head cam electronic fuel injected single turbo charged engine.

As someone stated. It is a pain in the but to get parts for. It is also becoming a obsolete motor. The newer model engines are now coming from Japan. And they are alum. block and heads, I think the heads are. Also easier to work on. And some USA spec Nissan engine parts swap out.

The stock VG30DET is capable of 160 H.P, at 8 p.s.i. to the wheels tuned properly. I now have 330 h.p. to the wheels, at 15 p.s.i. of boost. You will need to use some kind of higher octane mixture. It is a strong motor. I am liking it more and more. But, I have put more and more money into it.

To get the higher horsepower need a bigger turbo. Which needs bigger injectors. Which is now a lot easier to get. It has a dual hose design injectors. That no one makes. You have to have them reman. to a larger size.
