Ok I'm new to this so please be kind. I've noticed that many of the sand rails I'm looking at most of them have had tranny failures with the 2d. Whats the deal? I know alot of the failures are abuse related, but I do have a few friends that have not abused their cars but still have had problems. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Are you thinking about buying an older car with a 2d ?. It all depends on how much it was abused and maintained !. This topic has been drugg over the coals a few times !. do a search !. The jury ( Mendi) is still out on the Transworks nosecone upgrade and I'm not sure about the rumor of another candidate !. Only other thing I can say is I had Mcdowell do my 1st tranny that lasted 2 seasons and I'm on my 1st season with the "new improved model " Transworks ( DTD) - meaning all in ! , Weddle gears R&P with a pump and cooler, nose cone.. !!. And time will tell !. ( 33 days of camping and at least ave. 3 hrs per day in the dunes so far 100hrs ! ) . I do drive slower and more cautious than some though !.

i Have a 2D in my car.

LS1 with a 2D Funco Big 5

31 days in the dunes last season and 28 so far this season. NO PROBLEMS!!! Knock on Wood.

I drive my car very fast but try not to abuse the tranny. Dumping the clutch and so forth.

I like it. But I have herd Horror stories of the 2D.

Hope this helps...

Depends on the weight of the car and how much HP is being put to it.
What size CVs, what type of hubs etc.
I have a stock LS1, but my car weighs 2700lbs and I have 934 CV's with outboard hubs.
My 2D lasted 12 trips in 1 season and then gave up.
I took it out and put in a Fortin.

I bought a new PBS trans. As strong as a S4,but fits in place of a 2D.PBS has a REAL reverse gear along with much larger gear sets than the 2D.The imput is the same as a S4.
