Well it looks like I lost a rod bearing over the weekend on my GM 4.3L. I think I would rather get a new crate long block, or maybe a remanufactured one than get this one fixed. Anyone know of a good place to pick one up? Or, should I just go to the dealership and order one? Or, any other ideas?? I'm in San Diego so something local would be preferred.

Jim @ MechTech in Escondido use to do a lot with the 4.3's and may still have a line on them.

Thanks for all the input. I'm looking into all of them. Still looking at all options. I have looked into a junkyard motor all the way up to a new crate motor from the original builder. Still looking at all options. Anyone else have ideas, feel free to let me know and thanks for the PM's thumb.gif Got the old motor out last night along with the tranny. Taking the tranny down to McDowells since it is out. Going to get that freshed up and some gearing changes while I am at it.

Why did the motor go bad? The 4.3 usually runs a very long time.

How much does a complete junkyard engine cost? I have a '91 Astro with the "B code" engine that will not pas smog again. I can sell it to the state or to someone that wants the engine.

Really, not sure why it did? It momentarily lost oil pressure, then a nice knocking sound came from the rod bearing. Not sure if it is worth rebuilding since I'm not sure what kind of damage happened after it lost oil pressure?
