I don't know if its just me or my crappy luck this year, but it seems every time I get my 250r fixed, something goes wrong. My first trip was going to be this weekend, so today I went outside to change the oil. The last time I was out, the bike ran great, no problems what so ever, minus the gas leak, which I fixed. Well....I go to loosen the drain plug, and what breaks apart, the casing, just my damn luck. Do I have to go out and buy another case or is it possible for me to get this one maybe welded? I really don't have a lot of money at the moment, due to me moving a lot...so any advice would be appreciated? I guess I'll just have to ride the LT250 this weekend, which isn't the most reliable bike in the world.

The casing??? Did you strip out the threads in the case or did the case actually brake the case. If you stripe the threads then drill and tap for a 14mm bolt to replace the old one. If you broke the case then JB weld it back together and it should hold. That's the cheeseist(sp) way to do it, the best way is to get a new one...

I've owned 3 250r's since they were created and all of them had at least one case brake.

A welder with decent skills welding aluminum can fix it in a heart beat.

Once fixed, always use teflon tape (plumbers tape) when putting the drain plug back on. It will prevent the drain plug from sticking to the case threads.

There are other methods to repair them, but sooner than later, you'll see a leak.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I'll check out prices on casings and if I find it to expensive, I'll have a buddy of mine weld it back together. Thanks for the info guys.

I decided to get up and buy that half of the case, but my question is. I've never seen the inside of the bike, I'm not very mechnically inclinded. So by it saying that its the right side, does that mean its the right side when looking at the bike standing up, or right side if your sitting on it? I know the part of the casing that is cracked is the clutch side, can any of you tell me which side that is? Thank you

When they say right or left for a part it’s your right or left when sitting on it.

A couple of years ago, due to an exploding piston, I punctured my center cases on my R. Honda wanted some major $$$ to replace them. I took them to a good machine shop and for $140 he repaired them and you can't even tell where the original damage was. Since you're going to have it torn down this far, why not get the much less expensive repair that is just as good as new?
And, start using a smaller wrench when you go for the drain plug. It doesn't need to be super tight, and always use a new washer when you change oil.
