I'd like to nominate the guys from www.DumontDuneRiders.com for their sand car rescue on March 1 in Glamis.

There was a guy that camped near us that no one around us even knew. The DDR crew heard that he had broke down in the dunes bad (both front arms of his sand car were broken) and jumped into getting him out. Woody baiscally sacrificed the bed on his Chevy truck to get this guy out. And several others from DDR were involved in the wrenching.

It's one thing to swing by when someone is broke down, but Woody disconnected his truck from his trailer and Mike330R into the dunes to get a guy they didn't even know out.

This weekend was the first time I ever camped on the Gecko Loop. For the last several years I have camped as close to Road Runner as possible. I camped with some different people this weekend and they camped there. We got there Wednesday night. The next morning I got up to check tire pressure and gas up. I could not believe all the trash. I was up early and I spent about an hour picking up trash around the area before it was time to leave and spent as much extra time picking up trash in my camp area. My daughter helped me. By the time the weekend was over I had three big bags of trash from just a small walking distance. I threw tons of paper in the fire. Everywhere I drove around I saw trash. Empty cases of beer and even a BBQ. If I was in my rhino messing with my kids I kept stopping and picking it up. It almost seemed endless. We went on a dune ride from Gecko Loop to Olds and then from Olds to Comp. Olds looked pretty good but Comp hill had so much broken glass I did not want my seven year old daughter to play in the sand there. I filled the ice chest in my rail full of glass and did not even put a dent in it. Friday the wind starting picking up. I could not believe all the nails and staples in our camp. It was everywhere. The kids in our camp filled up a big sand bucket in minutes with nails and staples. I would assume from burning pallets. I love Glamis and I want it to stay open for ever, but I was really upset about the whole thing. We had our area cleaned up pretty well by the time the weeked was over. Even with the wind it was still prertty clean. I guess all I really want to say is WTF. Thanks for listening

I nominate the Beardowns.

My 20 year old niece and 6 of her college girlfiends are up in Havasu for spring break. Memo graciously offered to take them out on his boat for the day. I felt bad that I wasn't able to make it up and show them the sights and had visions of them trolling the channel looking for a boat ride. They had never been to Havasu before and had no clue on where to go and what to do. Thanks to the Beardowns for making their day. They had the best time out on the water and couldn't stop telling me how nice the Beardowns were. thumb.gif
