ORW has put togeather a UTV run from Tecate to San Felipe on May 1-4. The plan is to go to Rancho Santa Veronica on May 1st just outside of Tecate. This is a really cool little rancho/hotel where we will stay the night and leave the rigs and trailers. (it is very safe!) We will head out and traverse the pine forest into Valley De Trinidad and on up to Mikes Sky Ranch where we will spend our 2nd night. The next day we will head into San Felipe for some lunch and fun and then head on back up to Mikes to stay our 3rd and final night. And then the next day we will head from Mikes back to Rancho Santa Veronica.

You will be lead by some experienced Baja Racers who will have GPS, Sattelite phone communication, and all the tools required to be safe in Mexico. This will be the perfect trip for those of you who have never gone to Mexico but have always wanted too. The route is safe and beautiful and I can vouche that it is a ton of fun. we have done this run more than a coupkle of times and it is a ton of fun!!!

The cost is $150 and that will include your rooms and breakfast and dinner while at Mieks Sky Ranch for 2 nights. You will need money and be responsible for your own feul and meals while on the course. There will be planned stops for tacos and beer along the way!!!

Sign up with Jay at ORW (Off Road Warehouse) at 1-888-ORW-5337. Call him on or after Monday March 10th. Space is limited so RSVP ASAP!!!!

I will keep posted with other details. let me know if you have questions.

UPDATE!!!!!

I just spoke with the owners of ORW and here is the deal. It is $150 to reserve your spot. This $150 will pay for your 3 nights stay and your breakfast and dinner both days while at Mikes Sky Ranch. Dinner the first night is on ORW at Rancho Santa Veronica. Be aware that you will want to have money for Gas and Lunch and or bring your own food to make lunches. ORW will continue to add updates here and are in the middle of putting togeather an itinerary and a list of what to bring and what you will need.

As for breaking down, no one will be left behind, we will all pair up to ensure that someone always will have help. Most of the roads we are traveling are accessible by truck so there should be no problem rescuing any broken vehicles. A lot of what we are doing is part of the annual Baja Race Course so this is another reason to go so you will be able to know what its like to traverse the unbeliveable baja terrain from the valley to the Pine Forest to the sandy washes of san Felipe. This will be a great trip!!!!

Call Jay at ORW 1-888-ORW-5337to sign up or for more info. Post your questions and I should be able to get answers!!!!!

Well is it a total of $150.00 per person or more ;-)

$150 per person...the only added cost is what you want to spend on other food, drinks, gas, and what not. So make sure to have extra money but this $150 will reserve your spot and take care of your rooms as well as breakfast and dinner at Mike's. ORW will be buying everyone who comes down dinner the first night.

Essentially ORW is just reserving the rooms, they are co ordinating this run for everyone. They arent paying for anything except dinner the first night. Mikes Sky Ranch is $60 per person per night and Rancho santa Veronica is $30 per person per night. That is how they came up with the $150.

This run will be the SHIATE!!!!!

What type of equipment is needed? Would I need extra tires? Long Travel Etc? How do you get back to your vehicle if you break down?

LT is not neccesary at all. I would definitly recommend a spare tire, and you will HAVE to have room to carry one if not 2 5 gallon gas cans. We are working out the milage on the course to figure that out. If you break depending on the break we will have to decide to tow you back, or to a safe location to recover you with a truck and trailer. Breaking is something we never plan on but always plan for so any spare parts or tires you have you should bring. There will be a lot of us (hopefully around 20 Rhinos I am guessing) so unless you blow your motor or something super catastrophic we should be able to keep you up and running or at minimum limp you back.

You do not need a passport if driving down, only to fly in or out.

Sounds like a great trip for the SxS guys
The Pine forest is awesome and the whole of the trip should be epic scenery. We went that way through Valley de Trinidad last Oct from Enesnada through Mikes and down to San Quintin..

We will be going again the 2nd of April from Ensenada to Gonzaga bay and back.
JoeyD23
Randy Weisser one of the owners of ORW will be leading the trip. I just got a schedule of events emailed to me with a note to see him so I will wait to talk to him before posting it. We usually do this run in the buggy's but one of the guys going with us rides a bike and does this same exact run like 4 to 5 times a year. So there will be atleast 4 or 5 of us I think that have doe this run before.

It is a sweet ride, I am so pumped!! If I can figure out how to do it I have some video from our run a few years ago that I will post.

cisco kid
Wife and I are going, Yea ;-)
We will be taking our RZR ;-)
JoeyD23
Right on Cisco, look forward to meeting you...we will have a few RZR's with us!! Its going to be fun!!!!!
cisco kid

You might want to check on this a little more. There's probably a few threads on here with more info but I think that you need at least an ID and birth certificate even when driving. Passports were supposed to be required as of this year but they eased off that requirement until some later date.
JoeyD23
I will try and obtain the correct info on what documentation you need to get accross the border and back.

Also as for security, it is sort of hot in parts but where we are going is really off the beaten path and in Tecate there havent been any big issues like TJ or Juarez. It was a concern but we spoke to the individuals and Rancho Santa Veronica and Mike up at Mikes Sky Ranch, both said we will be just fine.
UTV Mayhem
good to know!! would suck to get your rhino and toyhauler jacked by whoever!!
King Tim
where will we leave our trucks and trailers ? is there a secure place to leave them ?
Permagrin
From Highway 3 Valley De Trinidad to Mikes cutoff There is hardly anybody but offroaders traversing the highway.
We usually leave from Horsepower ranch outside of Ensenada
Sanddoc

JoeyD23
We will leave the trucks and trailers in rancho santa veronica. Very safe ranch out behind Tecate. They cater to off roaders ALL THE TIME! Never had or heard of a problem with leaving the equipment here.

Where is El Coyote located ?????????
We are going to San Felipe anymore ??????????

Thats a good question, I know I have heard of el coyote but not sure where it is. I noticed that too. I think it may be a typo as they usually make this run in buggies so maybe when discussing they realzed going to San Felipe and back to Mikes in a day would be too much, so maybe El Coyots is closer? If I remember it is on the other side of Mikes (el coyote?) I will clear it up on Monday when I see Randy.

Man this sounds so cool, looks like it is just for sxs and rails, is this correct? No quads dirt bikes allowed?

Mainly for the SxS but i dont think they would descriminate if someone in a buggy wanted to roll.........
KingGlamis
So, it is only 150.00 per person + probably a couple hundred for other stuff? And something important to check out is what are the rules for bringing gas down to Mexico? It seems super affordable, and this would be a trip of a lifetime for my wife and I. Maybe post some more info regarding bringing fuel etc. that would be great! icon_biggrin.gif

I will check on that. I think you can bring fuel you just cant exceed something like 20 or 40 gal. I cant quite remember but I know people were talking about this before the 1000. Same thing with Tires I belive.

Do you know someone down in gonzaga? I just made a week long trip down there and stayed with family at a friends place. On our way back in Feb. I passed a Chenowth with 4 or 5 rhinos heading south from Puertocitos. It was weird since I don't often see genesis chassis anywhere, and to pass a group lead by a chenowth down south was cool. My dad is there now with friends pouring cement. There are a lot of old Baja guys who call that place home.

I used to do Tecate to Mikes, San Felipe, etc. rides on bikes all the time. I'm getting back into those now.

I'd love to see pics when you go.

BTW: There's a web cam and weather station at Papa's which is just behind Gonzaga: www.papafernandez.com

have fun

JoeyD23
Ok so I checked on a few things. Fuel and tires are OK to bring, no problem there. As for a passport, ont he gomexico travel website it says that you need to have 2 valid forms of identicfication to travel to and from mexico by land and sea. Meaning that you need to show a valid drivers license and a birth cirtificate or some sort of official form of Identification. Obviously a passport will work. I think Iwill go and get a passport, hopefully I can get one before the trip!!!!

Now as for the schedule, we will not head into san Felipe, rather we will go in another direction towards the coast to El Coyote.

At any rate I think I will try and talk to some friends who juist got back from San Felipe 250 and find out how the trip was security wise and what forms of identification they had.

cisco kid

So it looks like a passport is going to be the ticket being that the Drivers License isnt enough.
cisco kid

Driver’s license and birth certificate

So NO passport if you have the above ;-)

We jest cross the Border from Mexical this Saturday and got this above info from Border Patrol ;-)
I did not have BC and he give us a 30min song and dance about how inportant this is but still let us cross.

We will. Once done I will get you a copy of the map and all the information you need for Mikes and RSV. Maybe we'll have to load the buggies up and pull the run with you guys too!!

I will throw it out there but yesterday we were talking about putting togeather a UTV run from Havasu to the Grand Canyon. It would require some camping under the stars but how awesome would that be????? May have to start another thread to see what people think about that!
Sanddoc

We don't have an SxS yet but would love to make the trip in our truck. I've not been to Baja in 12 years for fear of getting robbed, etc. It sounds like going out with this group would be an awesome, safe trip and would allow for my wife and I to get to know the Baja landscape.

Are the trails truck-friendly?

They are, but I am not sure that a truck can keep up with us Eddy!!! LOL

In all seriousness you would either have to go way ahead or you would need to cruise behind. Call jay at ORW at clear the whole truck thing, I know they really were pretty adamit about no one being in trucks and buggy's but I dont see how it would hurt.
