I am not sure about this either - mostly because there is no picture or explanation... might have forgotten something.
Fireballsocal
Nope, it can't be fixed. Might as well just hand over the kawi to me for disposal. blink.gif

Judging from the pictures, it's probably worth fixing but only if you did the work yourself. Order the broken parts (stock) from ebay and make sure to use lots of grease when you put them back together. Remember to use a torque wrench also. You might want to replace the rear tire while you're at it icon_wink.gif

Clean it up really well with a wire wheel or sand paper and take it to a welder that can weld stainless (I think it's stainless anyway). It appears the original weld caused the surrounding metal to become brittle and it just cracked over time. Maybe too much heat? Should be an easy and fairly inexpensive fix, even cheaper if you know a good welder.
DanzKawi
thank you Ben,

i'll try that

Maybe even add 'gussets'? I always hear of repeated failures on rewelded stuff like this. The first thing that came to my mind was a short length of rod about the diameter of a pencil welded at a right angle to the broken area.

give it to me danzkawi, i'll fix it for you.... trust me nothing is beyond repair, it just depends on what is more economical new or repair. in this case it gets the glamis dunes.com charge. which is $0.00

it looks like a low grade stainless like 304 probably a cheap asian metal (probably even magnetic), i'de say carbon build up at the weld just wore through. real common. Even high grade stainless like 321 will corrode and wear through (inside out) when exposed to heat and carbon

This happened because you don't repack your muffler. I know it sounds weird but its true. Make sure you repack it after you weld it up or it will keep happening.
d33pt
how did the repair come out looking?
Dmax
I hope it came out well Dan, mine broke in about the same place last year in Idaho and we welded it up. So far so good.
sausage450r
when are you gonna bring me that muffler???? i just built a custom exhaust for a honda express moped, pretty beastly too bad all i have is pics on my phone.
sausage450r
heres that custom moped exhaust i just built this weekend
mxracer458
i ran that on my 250f when i worked at white bros, good thing i paid nothing for it,air leaks like crazy and not a good fit,
capt264
Repack the muffler. There was probably some extra heat build-up associated with the break.

Nice to know someone else is on the same page as me.
