I was looking at the pics.....The blue tint on your crankshaft looks like it's seen some serious heat! Is that normal for those?
I would say that crank is wasted, the metal near the rod journal is clearly detempered. You might be in for a lil more than what you were thinking. Your already in for a nasty repair bill, slap another piston on there and see how far it will go. The cases can't be as hard to find as mine.

Well on second thought, I can say, it will be expensive enough as is. Good luck brother, you might need it. Hope you don't spend the amount of money I did when I hosed my motor.....
I would comment the killer job you did on that piston but that would be

Is that the compression release on a Yamaha?
Not to sure on a four stroke, but if the rod don’t twist on the crank or slop side to side the bearings probably still good. New piston and bore and you should be set

Mar 17 2008, 07:19 AM
Yeah looking into new piston and bore. Probably going to have to do an oil mod as well so its gets an extra shot. And Im getting a higher output oil pump as well. Hopefully can fix it for one last ride before it gets stupid hot.

Is that a stock engine or were you running high compression? Nice venting for sure. I would also have the crank checked out. It looks like the piston was venting combustion right onto the crank. If it got hot enough to discolor the massive chunk of steel that is the crank, it probobly did lots more damage to the bearings.

"Good news... Actually GREAT NEWS!!! I just talked with the owner of BIII Racing. He said he will port intake boot, head, lap the valves, get the correct shims, so it is ready to bolt on and ride, and give a ported ESR intake for $200!!! Then all we sould have to buy is the gaskets and piston and he is sending me pics of how to do the oil mod. This thing will run amazing!!! but the port job alone is normally $600 from him, $1000 with mmad, and even curtis' port job is about $700 plus 6 months waiting! Let me know if you want to do this... He also recommends the taper bore of you carbs to 42.25 from sprdrum racing, I think it's about $150...
oh and the piston... we will go with a 12.5:1 compression CP piston... a lil larger bore... +1mm, which is a 96mm piston, and all we will have to pay for on that is the cylinder bore and hone, which shouldn't be much over $100, and shipping..."

Nope, they all look like that. The blueing is present on cranks that are new in the box. That is nothing to worry about.

Like 24V said......don't worry about that blueing on the crankshaft. That is part of the process of how they press the webs togather. Its all done with heat back at the factory.
I wouldve just picked up a 13:1 CP piston, a set of gaskets, and a 2007 oil mod kit from PDR anad be done with it.......having it done by Friday wouldve been a walk in the park.

Pending on who you take it to and color choice, it should be less than $100 for sure. There might be a minimum charge though. I had a whole frame and a box full of parts for less than $300.
