JOSHUA TREE -- A conference will be held Saturday to inform residents about off-road vehicle laws and how to protect the desert.
More than 25 organizations will sponsor the conference at the Joshua Tree Community Center at 6171 Sunburst Road.
Geologist Howard Wilshire will be the keynote speaker. He will discuss the impacts of off-road vehicles on private property as well as public and Native American land. He will also discuss the effects on plants and animals, potential dangers to children and how to be a responsible rider.
There will also be a question-and-answer session with and presentation by representatives from a number of government agencies, who will discuss what they are doing to address problems related to off-road vehicles.
The event is free and includes lunch.

Maybe we should all go... sounds like a good time will be had by all. Will they be bringing trees to hug? And are socks optional with the Birkenstocks, or is it formal?
Seriously tho, when? I'd like to see what 25 organizations are involved.

Lets make big signs that say 'Keep our deserts open'.
If anyone goes to this - can they ask the organization about the Johnson Valley OHV area being shut down because the base wants to buy more land for long range practice... please!

cracks me up when they cry to protect everything for years, then some developer dozes it all and puts in a tract of houses or a shopping center.

Thread tital sums it up
That is quite a mash of people. Most are aware of Johnson Valley issue.
They are fully aware of the impact of displaced OHV enthusiasts could have
on their communities. There will be some pro OHV representation there.
I will be interesting to hear if they back us up on preserving JV, like some have said.
Gotta give Meg @ ORBA some props for jumping in with the sharks.

This orv watch group has been in the making for quite a few years now. I think it started with many complaints of people riding on private property. Hard not to sometimes up there since it's pretty wide open. Can't say I haven't done it in this area but it's always in a responsible way.
